초록

2007 개정 9학년 8종 과학 교과서 ‘물질의 특성’ 단원에 대한 시각자료의 종류, 역할 및 역할에 따른 세부요소들을 분류기준에 따라 분류?분석하였으며, 이 단원에 대해 학생들을 대상으로 시각자료 이해에 대한 인식조사를 실시하였다. 연구결과는 학생들의 수준에 따라 과학 교과서를 선택하게하고, 학습활동 시 효과적인 시각자료의 활용도를 높이며, 학생들의 내용 이해에 따른 시각자료개발 및 개선에 필요한 자료를 제공하는데 목적이 있다. 8종 과학 교과서 분석 결과, 이 단원에 제시된 쪽당 평균 시각자료 수는 2.1개이며, 과학 교과서에 따라 비교적 큰 편차를 보였다. 시각자료 종류별 분포에서 사진이 절반 이상을 차지하며, 나머지는 도표, 만화, 그림, 도해, 혼합 순서로 나타났다. 시각자료 역할별 분포에서 자료제공이 54.5%를 차지하며, 나머지는 동기유발, 실험방법 안내, 실험결과 정리 순서로 나타났다. 동기유발 역할의 세부요소에서 ‘사진’이63%, 자료제공 역할의 세부요소에서 ‘사진’이51%, 실험방법 안내역할의 세부 요소에서 ‘실험 과정을 도구 만담은 사진’이 42%, 실험결과 정리 역할의 세부요소는 ‘실험수행 후 표만완성하도록 제시한것’ 이 55%로 각각 가장 높게 과학 교과서에 제시되었다. 학생들의 인식조사 결과, 밀도차에 의한혼합물의 분리 소단원에서 동기유발에 가장 효과적인 시각자료는‘현상을 나타낸 만화’, 자료제공 역할에 가장 효과적인 시각자료는 3개 소단원 모두 ‘혼합’, 실험방법 안내 역할에 가장 효과적인 시각자료는 ‘실험장치가 포함된 실험과정이 순차적이고, 각 실험과정에 설명이 포함된 사진’ ,실험결과 정리 역할에 가장 효과적인 시각자료는 ‘수행한실험 결과와 주어진 그래프를 비교?해석하도록 제시한 것’으로 각각 조사되었다.|This study examines visual resources in 9th grade science textbooks developed based on the 2007 revised national curriculum, particularly in the unit of 'characteristics of materials'. The visual resources are categorized according to their types and roles, and each category's frequency in the textbook is analyzed, followed by more detailed analysis of visual resources in terms of their roles and functions. Finally, an investigation on the students' perception of visual resources is carried out. The most frequent type of visual resources is photos, and its most frequent role is the provision of informative materials. In the motivational/informative categories, photos was most
frequently used. In the instruction of experimental rocedures and summary of experimental results, pictures of the instruments and tables were the most frequently used respectively. According to the investigation on the students' perception of visual resources, the type of visual resource which is the most effective for motivation is cartoons depicting natural phenomena; for information of scientific phenomena, multiple types of visual resources; for instruction of experimental procedures, pictures showing both the instruments and procedure of experiments; for summary of experimental results, complete graphs to be compared and incomplete tables and graphs to work on. It is hoped that this research will help select science textbooks appropriate for students’ academic levels, increase the effectiveness of visual resources in teaching-learning activities, and provide the informative supplements for the developments and improvements of visual resources according to students’ level of understanding.
