초록

현대예술의 중요한 경향 중 하나라고 할 수 있는 것은 예술을 예술 그 자체로서 드러내는, 예술적 장치를 의도적으로 노출하는 것이다. 그런데 20세기에 들어선 이후부터는 연극이 ‘스스로
를 의식하는’ 메타연극적 형식이 두드러지기 시작한다. 이것은 연극이 연극임을 인정하는 것을
넘어서서 작가가 직접 작품 속에 끼어들어 작품에 대한 ‘자의식적’ 진술을 늘어놓는 형태라고
볼 수 있다. 메타연극이라는 용어가 등장한 것은 20세기 이후의 일이지만, 실제로 연극의 메타
성이라고 하는 것은 ‘제시적 연극형태’와 맞물려 발전되어 온 것이 사실이다.1) 하지만 이렇게
광범위한 의미에서 메타연극성을 규정하면 20세기 이후의 포스트 모더니즘 계열 연극의 두드러
진 현상과 맞물려 설명하기에 어려움이 있을 것이므로, 제시적 연극의 형태와 분리시키는 명확
한 개념을 설정해야 할 것이다. 그래서 자의식성을 가지면서도, ‘극자체가 스스로를 의식하는’
‘드라마를 위한 드라마’라는 형식의 차원에서 개념정의를 하고자 한다.

영어초록

Canadian director, wrighter, actor, Robert Lepage(1957∼)'s theater has been appraised as imagetheater
adding film technique, hightechnology on theatricality used to be or totaltheater mixing Oriental and
Western forms and integrating various performance style. In other view, He can reappraised as metatheatrical director, wrighter for reflecting his identity in his works. Metatheater is the 20 century's
new theater form and style called as the theater of selfconsciousness and reveal the dual absence like
auther-actor. The identity, the basis of metatheatrical departure comes from the influence of the Quebec's
theaterical environment where Lepage growed up and he learned theater for the first time.
「Andersen Project」, performed since the year 2005, march, is the metatheater reflected auther Lepage's
identity in story and in forms. his works start with ‘stage wright’ through improvisation and collective
work, achieve the metatheatrical form drowing selfdiscovery by actor, Lepage himself or the other actors,
actress. And his works make the image of time and space by reflecting interior world of himself and take
the acting technique out through the solo performance, journey to oneself and object.
Lepage's metatheatrical characteristics appear in his play made by collective work, stage wrighting from
actor's creation. In story, one part is the real side arround the Andersen project gone ahead by Paris'
Opera theater Garnier. The other is the side of imaginary in Andersen's fairy tale「The Dryad」,「The
Shadow」. In structure, Scenes has been arranged for the perpose that this two course of story can
communicate with eachother between drama and drama in drama. His characters also show the various
surfaces of Lepage's inner world and it is connected with dark side of Andersen's life. this metatheatrical
characteristics of Lepage is more clear in his play directing thechnique. he starts as the author, diroctor,
actor, the totalauthor and he creat the story of self discovery and his time, space is expansion of his own
world. So the scenery in「Andersen Project」 follows the character's psychological movement and objects are
properties, puppets projected character's own mind. characters communicate with this scenery, set,
properties, puppets. Robert Lepage shows diverse side in himself through solo performance and create
acting with jurney to mind, transformation and connection, material objects and obstacles. In conclusion,
「Andersen Project」is metatheatrer that Robert Lepage made the autobiographical mythology by reflecting
his and Andersen's ego.
