소개

* 쉬운 영문으로 서술하였다.
기업이 축구구단을 운영하는 한국과는 달리 유럽 대부분의 축구구단은 시민구단이다. 한국구단에 비해 기업의 개입정도는 다르겠지만 그나마 비슷한 형태의 기업소유 구단인 Bayer Leverkusen의 성공사례를 통해 기업소유 구단의 태생적 한계를 어떻게 극복할 수 있는지 살펴보고자 한다.

Ⅰ. Introduction
Not only the soccer fans but also the foreign journalists were surprised and impressed when the red devils manifested slogans like ‘Again 1966’, ‘Pride of Asia’ and ‘Dreams★come true’ while the Korean national team was playing in the world cup matches. The last piece of work from the Red Devils was ‘CU@K-league’. This was a sensational expression from the internet generation which implied their dream of a successful K-League with a lot of audiences in the stadiums. Did the dream of ‘CU@K-League’ come true? 1year has passed since the end of the FIFA World-Cup 2002 and at the Season beginning it really seemed that the renaissance of K-League will be realized. However, this was again the typical ‘after W-Cup boom phenomenon’ which regularly appeared after the World-Cups and didn’t last for a long time.

Bayer Leverkusen focus rather on the first and second purposes. The 3rd one seems to be something that will be fulfilled automatically if the first and second purposes are accomplished.
Bayer spends a lot of money and attention to their citizens and it now became a company beloved and respected by their citizen.
2. The small population of the city
Their favorable image can be a good factor that attracts the audience to the stadium. However the good image wasn’t enough. Leverkusen is a small city with about 160,000 people and the Stadium ‘Bay Arena’ which is one of the best equipped modern stadium in Germany has 22500 seats. Mathematically, to fill the stadium 14% of the citizens should attend the stadium.
