In 1700 Europe and the rest of the world stood on the brink of a great change called the industrial revolution. By the end of the 18th century, the industrial revolution was well under way in England and would spread to the rest of Europe, the United States, and Japan during the next hundred years. At this time England, new discoveries in science and technology initiated a major trend that would change the face of society forever: replacing some human power with energy derived from sources like water and coal; and using mew machines to do what humans had done in the past. The England’s economy in 1700 was clearly much richer than it had been at any point in its past, as Adam Smith had already noted. The industrial revolution was a great change in history. Supported by rise in agricultural productivity, growing population, technologies, coal power, and market forces, a drastic breakthrough came in England around 1750, and modern economic growth. However this change had both bright and negative sides. Thanks to better technologies, death rate declined. And growing population causes labor surplus of rural areas, thus led to mass number of urban immigrants, Urbanization. Fixed social orders depend on static and agrarian economic settings, however, labor surplus and urbanization brought changes in social ranking. Occupations and social roles were not inherited anymore (Clarice, 24).
