Ⅰ. Introduction
“Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.” (Joseph Addison). In other words, “Reading is a basic tool in the living of a good life.” (Mortimer Jerome Adler). So, four functions of language - listening, speaking, reading and writing - are important, but particularly reading is a very important function. Above all, ability to read and comprehend English is essential to secure information rapidly (Juneil,1998). The purpose of this paper is to make several suggestions to help students comprehend information, improve their reading abilities and increase pleasure in reading through extensive reading.
Ⅱ. Background
In connection with reading, readers have a common problem. That is, readers often focus on the meaning of each word and interpret the context incorrectly. Because readers want to know the whole context rather than overall comprehension of context, they search for definition of all of words that they do not know in a dictionary.
