What is the first thing which comes to one's mind when he or she thinks of a
Muslim woman? Skin color, exotic beauty or the Koran? There are different ideas about
the Islam woman, but most people probably associate her with the hijab. Hijab is one of
the biggest symbol of Islam culture and a distinction from the other's. Some muslims
say that hijab is their identity as well as religious symbol. French headscarf debate
isn't a simple issue because hijab has no unitary meaning. It is not merely a covering
dress but more importantly, it is behavior, manners, speech and appearance in public.
The headscarf debate is particularly significant in term of its relations to the
misconception of Islam, as a christian superiority complex, and as regarding hijab as the
sign of the women restraint.
