1. 연구의 필요성
√ 현대 여성에게서 폐경의 의미
• 여성의 폐경은 생식기에서 비생식기로 전환되는 하나의 정상적인 사건이다. (김영혜,2003; kwon et al ,1996)
• 폐경전후 연령인 45세 이상의 여성인구의 비율은 1996년에 25.8%를 차지하며, 수명의 연장과 더불어 폐경상태로 지내는 여성의 비율이 점차 늘어날 것으로 예상된다. (보건복지부, 보건복지통계연보. 1996; 42호:268)
• 즉, 오늘날 여성들의 광범위한 사회진출과 그 성과로 인해 여성의 중년기 변화는 노화과정의 일부가 아닌 성장발달의 한 과정으로 재조명 되고 있다. (이가영,1999;김영혜,2006;이경혜,1996; Hunter,1993)
• 특히 여성의 폐경을 생의 전환점으로써 자연스러운 발달 과정 중 하나라는 관점이 제시되면서 다른 인생주기와 마찬가지로 여러 가지 변화와 문제를 동반하는 인생의 전환점으로 인식되고 있다. (최혜원 등 1998; 고명숙, 1992)
• 이처럼 폐경에 대한 태도는 문화적인 믿음과 가치, 시대에 따라 변화하며 폐경을 경험하는 개인에게 커다란 영향을 준다고 할 수 있다. 더구나 중년여성은 가족 구성원들에게도 큰 영향을 주는 존재이므로 중년 여성이 이에 따른 변화에 잘 대처하여 건강하고 질적인 삶을 영위할 수 있도록 해야한다. (최혜원 등 1998; 고명숙, 1992)
