“Dystopia” is an imaginary place where everything is as bad as it can be. Brave New World, by Aldous Huxely (2008) and 1984, by George Orwell (1949) are typical dystopian novels. People in the dystopian society are suppressed freedom by the governments. Brave New World and 1984 are both set in London, the United Kingdom. Bernard in Brave New World and Winston in 1984 show the figure of helpless human being in the dystopian society. The following essay will describe the pictures of these two dystopian societies and will compare and contrast the class by describing the process of birth and their jobs, sexual relations by illustrating the meaning of sex, and society control by depicting the means of social control and punishment.
The social hierarchies exist in the societies of Brave New World and 1984. In other words, the social classes are divided in both societies. However, some differences exist in the process of birth and their occupations. A future world as described in Brave New World is a thorough class society which produces humans as necessary.
