본문내용

우리나라 사람들은 장애인, 의료인, 일반인 모두 장애인에 대하여 부정적 태도를 가지고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 인종, 문화적 특성은 장애인의 태도에 영향을 미치는 요소로 백인이 보다 긍정적이고 아시아인들이 부정적이라고 하였다(Lin-Yee, 1983; Wai & David, 2006). 일반인과 의료인이 장애인을 남들과 다르게 부정적으로 인식하고 있으며, 장애인보다 의료인이나 일반인이 장애인을 일반인과는 다르게 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 일반적으로 장애인에 대한 사회적 태도는 부정적이며 의료인들의 태도도 예상보다 부정적인 것으로 나타났다(Paris, 1993; Tervo et al, 2002).

1) 장애인에 대한 인식
인식이란 어떤 대상을 감지하고 이를 분별, 판단하는 의식의 작용이며, 또한 이성에 의하여 사물의 성질과 사물간의 관계에 관하여 바른 판단을 내리는 일이다. 즉, “장애인에 대한 인식이란 장애인을 어떻게 생각하는가”이다.
인간은 누구나 신체외모와 기능, 개성에 있어서 독특한 차이를 가지고 있다. 이러한 인간 다양성은 존중되어야 하며, 인간은 자신이 어떤 상태에 놓여 있든지 스스로 자신의 삶을 주체적으로 선택하고 결정할 수 있는 자기결정권이 충분히 확보되어야 하고, 국가는 한 인간이 인간다운 삶을 누릴 수 있도록 옹호하고 보장해 주는 역할을 감당해야 한다.

3. 편견 극복을 위한 노력
편견(prejudice)란 객관적이지 못하고 한쪽으로 편중되어 있는 생각으로 어떤 특정의 대상에 대하여 사실적인 근거가 없이 갖게 되는 태도 즉, 어떤 개인이나 집단을 근거 없이 공정하지 않게 취급하고 정당화시키려는 태도나 신념 혹은 감정을 말한다. 현재 사회에서는 사람들이 많이 보고 느끼는 대중매체, 즉 텔레비전이나 신문, 잡지와 최근 인터넷이라고 불리는 사이버 공간의 장애인들과 관련된 잘못된 정보나 인식을 변화시켜야 한다. 가령 예를 들면 텔레비전에서 장애인들에 관한 보도를 할 때 지나치게 약하고 가난한 그런 편견된 모습을 보일 것이 아니라 일반인들과 다름없다는 그런 생활모습을 보여주어야 한다. 그 다음으로는 일반 학교에서의 학생들에게 장애인에 대한 올바른 교육을 해서 제대로 된 인식을 갖게 하는 것이다. 다음과 같은 인식이 바로 그것이다. 무엇보다도 먼저 장애를 가진 사람도 장애를 가졌다는 특수한 제한점을 제외하고는 다른 사람들과 똑같다.
