플랫폼 차이에 따른 다큐멘터리 영상 재현의 차별화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Visual Representation Differentiation of Documentaries according to Platform)

초록

최근 멀티 플랫폼 환경이 도래함에 따라 플랫폼에 적합한 다양하고 새로운 유형의 콘텐츠가 지속적으로 생산되고 있다. 본 연구는 다큐멘터리가 방영되는 플랫폼에 따라 어떤 영상재현 양식의 특성을 보이는지, 그리고 수용자는 이런 점들을 어떤 의미로 해독하고 있는지를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 같은 소재와 장소에서촬영되고, 똑같은 주제를 다룬 TV다큐멘터리 <백발의 연인>과 극장용 다큐멘터리 영화 <님아, 그 강을 건너지 마오>를 선정하여 영상재현의 특성 비교 및 실험연구를 통한 수용자들의 반응과 그 의미를 파악하고자 하였다. 연구결과, <백발의 연인>은 다양한 종류의 샷을 비슷하게 사용하였고, 인물샷의 경우 바스트샷, 웨이스트샷, 풀샷의 활용빈도가 높았다. <님아, 그 강을 건너지 마오>는 업샷의비율이 상대적으로 높고, 인물샷에서 바스트샷, 풀피겨의 빈도가 대체로 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 TV다큐멘터리가 관습적인 상황에 따라 미학적 촬영보다는 현장 기록에 치중한 반면, 다큐멘터리 영화는 상징적인 이미지 샷을 통해관객의 정서를 몰입시키는 전략을 보여주고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 카메라 워크에서는 두 작품 모두 공통적으로 고정샷의 재현방식을 적극적으로 활용하였다.
하지만 TV다큐멘터리가 다큐멘터리 영화에 비해 팔로우잉샷의 활용이 많았으며, 결과적으로 장시간의 촬영 기간을 확보한 영화가 완성도 높은 작품을 생산할 수있음을 말해준다. 한편, 플랫폼 차이에 따른 다큐멘터리 영상재현에 대한 수용자의 반응 결과, 두 작품 모두 사실성에 관한 높은 평균값을 나타냈다. 특히 두 작품의 사실성 비교에 있어서 진실성(정확성)과 관련성(완성도)이 유의미한 결과를보여주고 있다. TV다큐멘터리의 제작 특성 상 핸드헬드 기법을 주로 사용함으로써 현장성과 사실감을 전달하여 높은 진실성을 보여주는 것으로 판단된다. 반면에 완성도 측면에서는 <님아, 그 강을 건너지 마오>가 매우 높은 평균값을 보이고 있다. 이는 카메라 샷이나 구도 등 미학적 완성도를 높이는데 영화가 보다 더심혈을 기울이고 있음을 말해준다. 그리고 흥미도에 대한 수용자 반응에서도 다큐멘터리 영화 <님아, 그 강을 건너지 마오>가 <백발의 연인>에 비해 재미, 몰입, 이해, 행복 요소에서 훨씬 높은 평균값을 보여준다. 이는 영상콘텐츠의 완성도가수용자들에게 흥미를 높여 주는 매우 중요한 요소임을 인식시켜준다고 할 수 있다. 그밖에 작품에 대한 수용자의 만족도에 있어서 <님아, 그 강을 건너지 마오> 가 <백발의 연인>에 비해 이야기(내용), 영상, 작품완성도, 가치 등 모든 구성 요소에서 높이 평가되었다. 이러한 점에 비추어 볼 때, 장시간에 걸쳐 촬영한 작품이 보다 높은 완성도를 이끌어내고, 결국 수용자들에게 더 좋은 평가를 받고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

영어초록

Following the recent advent of multi-platform environment, various and new types of contents, fitting for platform, are being continuously produced. This study examined what characteristics of visual representation type are shown according to platform on which documentaries are televised, and how the audience interpret such points. This study, for this, selected TV documentary titled <Gray-haired Lover> and documentary film titled <My Love, Don’t Cross that River>, which were filmed at the same place and had same subject matter, to apprehend the audience’s response and its meaning, through comparison of characteristics of visual representation and test research. As a result of study, <Gray-haired Lover> similarly used various kinds of shot, and frequently utilized bust shot, waist shot and full shot for figure shot. <My Love, Don’t Cross that River> showed relatively high rate of upshot, and the frequency of bust shot and full figure was generally high. The result definitely showed that TV documentary focused on field recording, by custom, rather than aesthetic shooting, while the documentary film presented a strategy to let the audience’s emotion be immersed in the film, through symbolic images. In addition, with regard to the camera walk, above-stated two works all actively utilized representation type of fixed shot. But, TV documentary used more following shot than documentary film, which led to the fact that a film taken for long time can produce high completion of work. Meantime, as a result of examining the audience’s response to visual representation of documentary according to platform, both of two works showed high average value as to realism. In particular, in comparing realism between two works, authenticity (accuracy) and relevance (degree of completion) showed significant results. Due to the characteristics of TV documentary production, frequent use of handheld technique is considered to show high degree of realism, by delivering sense of field and reality. On the other hand, in the aspect of completion, <My Love, Don’t Cross that River> showed very high average value.
This means that a film devotes itself to raise degree of aesthetic completion, such as camera shot or composition. Furthermore, even in the audience’s response to the degree of interest, the documentary film titled <My Love, Don’t Cross that River> showed much higher average value in the aspect of fun, immersion, understanding and happiness, than <Gray-haired Lover>. This result showed that the degree of completion of image contents is very important element to raise interest of audience.
Additionally, as to the audience’s satisfaction for work, all the elements such as story (contents), image, degree of completion and value of <My Love, Don’t Cross that River> were highly evaluated than <Gray-haired Lover>. In light of these results, a work that is filmed for long time brings higher degree of completion, and finally receives more favorable evaluation from the audience.
