『순수이성비판』 B판의 초월적 연역에서 통각의 주관적 통일과 통각의 객관적 통일의 관계 (On the Relationship between the Subjective Unity of Apperception and the Objective Unity of Apperception in the B Edition of the Critique of Pure Reason)

초록

본 논문의 목표는 『순수이성비판』 B판에서 “통각의 주관적 통일subjektive Einheit der Apperzeption”과 “통각의 객관적 통일objektive Einheit der Apperzeption”의 관계를 해명하는 것이다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 통각의 주관적 통일과 객관적 통일이 주제화되는 B판의 “범주의 초월적 연역transzendentale Deduktion der Kategorien”에서 §17부터 §19까지를 해설하여 통각의 주관적 통일과 객관적 통일이 무엇인지 규정하였다. 통각의 객관적 통일은 표상들을 객관의 개념 하에서 종합하는 활동을, 통각의 주관적 통일은 내감에 의해 제공된 주관의 상태 표상들을 종합하는 활동이다. 칸트에 따르면 “통각의 주관적 통일이 주어진 구체적 조건하에서 객관적 통일로부터 파생된(abgeleitet sein)” 것인데, 본 논문은 이 때의 ‘파생된’이라는 표현은 (논리적인 파생관계가 아니라) 가능조건의 의미로 해석해야 함을 제안하였다. 즉 통각의 객관적 통일은 통각의 주관적 통일이 가능하기 위한 조건이다. 내감의 표상들을 종합하는 일(즉 통각의 주관적 통일)은 통일된 시공간 표상이 없으면 불가능한데, 통각의 객관적 통일에 의해 통일된 시공간 표상이 가능하기 때문이다.

영어초록

The goal of this paper is to clarify the relationship between the "subjective unity of apperception (subjektive Einheit der Apperception)" and the "objective unity of apperception (objective Einheit der Apperception)" in the B edition of the Critique of Pure Reason. To this end, I define what subjective unity and objective unity of apperception are by explaining from §17 to §19 of the B edition of the “Transcendental Deduction of Categories,” where the subjective unity and objective unity of apperception are thematized. I then clarified what Kant meant by his explanation that the subjective unity of apperception is "derived from the objective unity under given conditions in concreto" by critically examining the various interpretations of previous studies.
The task of the "Transcendental Deduction of Categories" is to show how a perception constituted by the subject's perceptual faculties can be a valid perception of an object. In the B version of the Deduction, this was done by showing that the activity of understanding is both the capacity to synthesize and the capacity to judge, and thus the activity of the understanding is necessary for the knowledge of objects. Since the subjective unity of apperception and the objective unity of apperception are concepts that emerge in the context of explaining this capacity of the understanding, this study contributes to clarifying the aim and argumentation structure of the B version of the Transcendental Deduction of Categories.
