힐데가르트의 신비체험에 나타난 생태신학적 함의 –창조와 구원의 비이원적 통전성을 중심으로- (Eco-theological implications of Hildegard’s mystical experience – Focusing on the non-dual integrity of creation and salvation –)

초록

인간의 끊임없는 탐욕과 자연을 착취의 대상으로 삼는 폭력적 행위를 통해, 생태계의 위기가 전-지구적 생존의 위협을 초래했다. 이에 교회와 신학이 진리와 구원에 대한 온전한 인식과 통전적 영성에 대한 깊은 성찰이 무엇보다 중요하게 요구되는 시점에 와 있다. 본 연구는 중세 신비주의 사상에 대한 고찰을 통해 이러한 통전적 영성의 길을 모색하고자 한다. 무엇보다 중세 시대를 살았던 여성 신비주의자 힐데가르트 폰 빙언(Hildegard von Bingen)은 당시 암울한 시대 상황 속에서 예언자적 소명을 받아, 인간과 세계를 구원하려는 비전 속에 평생을 헌신했다. 그녀는 실존의 삶과 신앙 안에서 어떻게 세상 속에서 하나님의 구원의 메시지를 전할지를 고심하면서 세상과 적극적으로 소통했다. 당시 부패한 교회와 사회를 변혁하고자 했던 그녀의 삶은 독특한 신비체험의 형태 속에서 인간과 자연에 관한 생태신학적 관점을 통해 제시된다. 무엇보다 그녀의 신학은 ‘타락-속량’의 이원론적 구원이 아닌, 인간과 자연을 모두 포함하는 전 창조세계의 회복과 구원을 전제로 하고 있다. 즉, 창조와 구원에 관한 통합적 인식을 바탕으로 우주적 그리스도의 비전이 나타나 있다.
한편, 힐데가르트의 통전적인 생태신학적 함의는 선한 창조의 원복을 강조함으로써, 죄에 대한 회개와 구원의 문제를 부차적인 것으로 인식하는 창조 영성과도 근본적인 차이를 보여준다. 즉, 그녀는 삼위일체적 하나님의 구속의 역사가 우주적 그리스도의 비전 안에서 새 창조의 회복과 함께, 인간과 모든 피조물들의 구원을 아우르는 비이원적인 통전적 사역임을 제시한다. 비록, 최근까지 오랫동안 신비주의사상은 합리주의 전통의 관점 속에서 신학적인 명확한 인식과 구원관이 제대로 정립되어 있지 않다고 비판받아왔으나, 실제로 신비주의 사상은 기독교의 삼위일체신관과 예수 그리스도를 통한 구원에 대한 분명한 이해, 그리고 기독교의 복음적 진리를 더 확실하게 근거시켜 준다. 이는 구체적인 개인의 실존적인 삶과 신앙 속에서 하나님의 임재와 구원의 역사가 어떻게 체험되고 발현되는지를 신적 현존의 실재적 경험 안에서 보여주기 때문이다.
이에, 본 연구는 중세의 대표적인 여성 신비주의자인 힐데가르트의 환시 체험의 상징적 의미들을 분석하고 해석하는 과정을 통해, 창조와 구원에 관한 통전적이며 생태신학적인 함의들을 조망하는 것을 목표로 한다. 본 연구의 구성은 다음과 같다. 힐데가르트의 신비신학의 특징과 힐데가르트의 환시 체험의 내용 및 해석, 그리고 창조와 구원에 관한 힐데가르트의 생태신학적 관점에 대한 논의가 이루어진다.

영어초록

Through humans’ endless greed and violent acts of exploiting nature, the ecological crisis has created a threat to global survival. Accordingly, the church and theology are at a point where a complete awareness of truth and salvation and deep reflection on holistic spirituality are more important than anything else. This study seeks to explore this path of holistic spirituality through consideration of mysticism. Above all, Hildegard von Bingen, a female mystic who lived in the Middle Ages, accepted her prophetic calling in the dark conditions of the time and devoted her life to a vision to save humanity and the world. She actively communicated with the world as she contemplated how to spread God’s message of salvation in the world through her real life and faith. Her life, which sought to transform the corrupt church and society of the time, is presented through an eco-theological perspective on humans and nature in the form of a unique mystical experience. Above all, her theology is premised on the restoration and salvation of the entire creation world, including both humans and nature, rather than the dualistic salvation of ‘fall-redemption’. In other words, the vision of the universal Christ is revealed based on the integrated awareness of creation and salvation.
Meanwhile, Hildegard’s holistic ecological theological implications emphasize the restoration of good creation, showing a fundamental difference from creation spirituality, which recognizes the issues of repentance for sin and salvation as secondary. In other words, she suggests that the work of redemption by the Triune God is a non-dual, holistic work encompassing the salvation of humans and all creatures along with the restoration of new creation within the vision of the universal Christ. Although, until recently, mystical thought has been criticized for a long time as not having a clear theological awareness and a properly established view of salvation from the perspective of the rationalist tradition, in fact, mystical thought has a clear understanding of the Christian view of the Trinity and salvation through Jesus Christ, And it provides a more solid basis for the gospel truth of Christianity. This is because it shows within the real experience of divine presence how God’s presence and the work of salvation are experienced and revealed in a specific individual’s existential life and faith.
Accordingly, this study aims to look at the holistic and eco-theological implications of creation and salvation through the process of analyzing and interpreting the symbolic meanings of the hallucinatory experiences of Hildegard, one of the representative female mystics of the Middle Ages. The structure of this study is as follows. The characteristics of Hildegard’s mystical theology, the content and interpretation of Hildegard’s visionary experience, and Hildegard’s ecological theological perspective on creation and salvation are discussed.
