트라우마의 신학적 의미 (Theological Meanings of Trauma)

초록

본고는 목회신학 관점에서 트라우마의 신학적 의미를 탐구하고자 한다. 이를 위해 본고는 먼저 트라우마 이론과 신학의 접점을 찾고, 트라우마를 신학 담론으로 전개한 신학자들의 연구, 특히 제니퍼 베스트와 셸리 램보의 신학 작업을 비판적으로 검토하면서 희생자/생존자 관점, 깨어진 현실, 의지의 부자유, 죽음의 경험, 치유와 구속, 릴레이셔널 홈 등 여섯 가지 주제로 트라우마의 신학적 의미를 규명했다.
베스트와 램보는 트라우마의 고유한 특성을 숙고하여 트라우마를 렌즈로 해서 신학 담론을 새롭게 발전시켰다. 베스트는 라너의 자유의지와 은총론을 수정하고 트라우마 희생자/생존자에게는 지지 관계가 하나님의 은혜를 매개한다고 주장했다면 램보는 중간 영역으로서 성토요일의 성령론을 전개하여 죽음과 삶이 공존하는 트라우마 생존자의 경험을 신학화시켰다. 베스트와 램보가 트라우마를 기초로 신학 담론을 새로운 방향으로 전개한 것은 높이 평가될 수 있지만, 목회신학 관점에서는 치유와 변화에 대한 희망이 더욱 강조될 필요가 있다. 이와 함께 치유와 릴레이셔널 홈의 신학적 의미도 깊이 탐구하여, 치유와 구원에 대한 신학 담론을 놓치지 않는 것이 중요하다.
목회적 사건에 대한 신학적 성찰이 이론적인 신학 개념을 구체적이고 현장성 있게 파악할 수 있게 도울 뿐만 아니라 신학 개념에 새로운 차원을 더하여 이론신학의 발전에도 기여할 수 있다는 것이 목회신학자의 확신이다. 하지만 목회신학은 이론적 성찰에 머물지 않고 실천—이론—실천으로 이어지는 순환을 완결해야 한다. 이런 의미에서 목회신학 지식은 변혁적 지식이라고 말할 수 있다. 본고에서의 트라우마에 대한 신학적 성찰이 한 단계 더 나아가서 현장에서 변화를 만들어내는 실천적 지식으로 변모되기를 소망한다.

영어초록

This study is designed to investigate theological meanings of psychological trauma. For this purpose, this study endeavors to present the contact points between trauma theory and theology, to review critically previous studies of theologians who develop theological discourses with recourse to trauma, particularly theological works of Jennifer Beste and Shelly Rambo, and to present theological meanings of trauma under six topics: the victims/survivors perspective, broken reality, bondage of will, experience of death, healing and redemption, and the relational home.
With distinctive features of trauma in deep consideration, Beste and Rambo develop theological discourses on fresh ground through the lens of trauma. While Beste seeks to modify Rahner’s theology on free will and divine grace and to assert that supportive relations with others may mediate divine grace for trauma victims/survivors, Rambo unfolds the doctrine of the Holy Spirit of the Holy Saturday, theologizing the experiences of the traumatized suffering from coexistence of death and life. Although it is highly valuable that Beste and Rambo advance theological discussions on the basis of trauma, the perspective of pastoral theology demands more emphasis on the hope for recovery and transformation. Furthermore, theological meanings of healing and the relational home require more attention in order to bring theological discourses on healing and redemption to the fore.
It is conviction of pastoral theologians that theological reflection of pastoral events will serve to grasp theological concepts more concretely and closely to pastoral situation, contributing to theological development by adding a new dimension to them. Yet pastoral theology should not remain within theoretical reflection but complete the cycle of practice—theory—practice. In this sense pastoral theological knowledge can be characterized as transformational. It is my earnest desire to transform theological reflection of trauma in this study into practical knowledge initiating healing and changes in the pastoral situation.
