초록

In order to reduce the accidents in chemical processes, working places and laboratories, it is important to understand the information of on the materials handled in work places. The flash point, fire point, explosion(flammable) limit and autoignition temperature(AIT) are crucial the combustible parameters which need special attention in chemical plants and processes that handle hazardous substances. For the safe handling of isobutylbenzene(IBB) being widely used the chemical industry, the flash point, the fire point and the AIT of isobutylbenzene was experimented. And, the lower explosion limit of isobutylbenzene was calculated by using the lower flash point which obtained in the experiment. The flash points of isobutylbenzene by using the Setaflash and Pensky-Martens closed-cup testers measured 45 ℃ and 48 ℃, respectively. The flash points of isobutylbenzene by using the Tag and Cleveland open cup testers are measured 54 ℃ and 58 ℃. Also, the fire points of isobutylbenzene by the Tag and Cleveland open cup testers are measured 61 ℃ and 60 ℃. The AIT of isobutylbenzene by ASTM 659E tester was measured as 424 ℃. The lower explosion limit by the measured lower flash point of isobutylbenzene 45 ℃ was calculated as 0.84 vol%. In this study, the prediction of explosion limit is possible by using the flash point measured.
