중도입국청소년의 가족경험에 대한 현상학적 연구 (A Phenomenological Study on Family Experiences of Immigrant Youth Who Were Born and Raised in Their Native Countries)

초록

문화적 다양성의 변화 속에 중도입국청소년의 숫자는 크게 증가하고 있으나 이들의 가족경험에 대한 논의는 매우 제한적이다. 본 연구의 목적은 중도입국청소년의 가족경험을 탐색하여 그 경험의 본질을 밝히는 것이다. 이를 위하여 청소년기에 국내로 이주하여 가족과 함께 거주하는 중도입국청소년 5명을 심층면접하고, 수집된 자료를 Giorgi(1985)의 현상학 연구방법으로 분석하였다. 본 연구의 연구문제는 ‘중도입국청소년의 가족경험은 무엇인가?’,‘중도입국청소년의 가족경험은 어떤 의미를 갖는가?’이다. 본 연구결과 4개의 구성요소와 14개의 하위구성요소가 도출되었다. 4개의 구성요소는 ‘불안정한 가족생활이 시작됨’, ‘가족이 모두 경계인으로 살아감’, ‘부모와 다른 문화에서 살아감’, ‘부모의 짐을 덜며 결속됨’으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 지금까지 중도입국청소년의 적응과정에서 지엽적으로 다루어진 가족경험에 초점을 맞춰 심도 있는 경험의 내용을 제시하고 있으며, 중도입국청소년의 적응과정에서 가족경험이 갖는 의미를 조망하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 본 연구는 중도입국청소년의 조력 과정에서 가족 단위의 체계적 개입의 중요성을 제시하고 중도입국청소년 가족을 위한 사회적 지지망 형성 및 전문적 조력개입의 필요성을 시사한다.

영어초록

There have only been a limited number of studies that have sought to examine family experiences of immigrant youth who were born and raised in their native countries, despite the fact that the number of this population is increasing in the midst of cultural diversity. The aim of this study is to explore family experiences of immigrant youth who were born and raised in their native countries, and determine the essence of these experiences. In the pursuit of this purpose, the researcher conducted in-depth interviews with 5 foreign-born immigrant youth who live with their families after migrating to the Republic of Korea during adolescence. In addition, data collected were analyzed using Giogi’(1985)s phenomenological research method. Research questions of this study are “what are family experiences of immigrant youth who were born and raised in their native countries?” and “what is the significance of family experiences of foreign-born immigrant youth who migrated to the Republic of Korea during adolescence?” The results of this study extracted 4 elements and 14 sub-elements. 4 identified elements of this study are “begin to live an unstable family life,” “all the family live peripheral life,” “live in a culture that is different from parents’,” and “build solidarity by lifting parents’ burden.” The results of this study suggest an intensive analysis of family experiences of immigrant youth who were born and raised in their native countries, which have been dealt with only peripherally in studies of adjustment processes of foreign-born immigrant adolescents. In addition, this study is significant because it proposes the meaning of family experiences in foreign-born immigrant adolescents’ adjustment processes. This study insists on importance of a family level systemic intervention in providing assistance to foreign-born immigrant youth. Furthermore, this study suggests the necessity of professional assistance intervention and the formation of social supports network for families of immigrant adolescents who were born and raised in their native countries.
