馬韓ㆍ百濟圈 鐵刀의 變遷 (The temporal change of the Iron Swords from the Mahan and Baekje Area)

초록

본고는 마한,백제권의 철도를 형식분류하여 변천양상을 살펴본 것이다. 마한·백제권의 환두도는 관부형태가 무관→편관→양관으로 변화하고 목병도는 편관→양관으로 변화하는 과정에서 경부폭이 함께 변화하는 양상을 보인다. 명목형 속성인 관부형태와 연속형 속성인 경부비율을 결합하여 형식분류를 하였다. 이러한 형식분류에 대해 판별분석뿐 아니라 같은 무기류인 철모,철촉과의 공반관계를 통해 검토해보았다.
마한,백제권 철도의 변천은 크게 4분기로 나누어 살펴볼 수 있다. Ⅰ기는 3세기 전반~3세기 중엽으로 주로 아산만권의 주구토광묘에서 무관의 장식이 없는 소환두도만 출토된다. Ⅱ기는 3세기 후반~4세기 전반으로 아산만권과 서해안 지역의 분구묘계열 목관묘에서 편관의 환두중도가 주로 제작되며 편관의 목병도가 초현한다. Ⅲ기는 4세기 후반~5세기 전반으로 경기지역과 아산만권의 주구가 없는 순수 토광(목관)묘에서 환두대도와 목병중ㆍ소도가 주로 출토되며 석곽,석실묘에서도 출토되기 시작한다. 또한 양관이 등장하는 시기로 경부가 세경화되며 장식환두도가 등장한다. Ⅳ기는 5세기 후반~6세기대로 서해안지역을 중심으로 석곽묘와 석실묘에서 양관의 환두도와 목병도가 출토되며 일부 영산강유역에서도 확인된다. 환두도는 이전 시기와 마찬가지로 주로 대도로 제작되며 장식이 더욱 발달하고 목병도의 제작이 증가한다. 따라서 마한,백제권에서 환두도와 목병도는 유기적으로 연동하여 동일한 발전양상을 가지고 있음을 확인하였다.

영어초록

This study presents a new typology of iron swords from the Mahan and Baekje area, and sheds a new light on their spatial and chronological variations. The shape of ricasso in the ring-pommelled swords of the Mahan and Baekje area changed from unbevelled type to one-side bevelled type, and finally to two-side bevelled type. The wood handle swords changed from one-side bevelled type to two-side bevelled type along with a change in the hilt width. The current typology is considered most reasonable judging from the result of discriminant analysis and the association with other archaeological materials such as iron spearheads and arrowheads.
The temporal change of the iron swords from the Mahan and Baekje area is divided into four stages. In Stage Ⅰ (from the early phase of the third century to the middle and late phases of the third century A.D.), the ring-pommelled swords are mostly found from pit burial with earthern ditch in the Asan Bay area. The swords during this period were not decorated in the pommel and have unbevelled ricasso . In Stage Ⅱ (from the late third to the early fourth century A.D.), the ring-pommelled swords and wood handle swords started to appear from wood coffin of so-called Bungumyo in the Asan Bay and the west coast. The ring-pommelled swords from this period are mostly mid-sized with narrow hilt. Ricasso with one-side bevelled type first appears in this period. In Stage Ⅲ (from the late fouth to the early fifth century A.D.), ring-pommelled swords and wood handle swords are mostly excavated from pit burials of the Gyeonggi and the Asan Bay area. Some of them appear in the stone-outer-coffin and stone chamber tombs. Hilt beame much narrower, and decorative swords with ring pommel appears as well as ricasso with two-side bevelled type. In Stage Ⅳ (from the late fifth to the sixth century A.D.), the ring-pommelled and wood handle swords are excavated mostly from the stone-outer-coffin and stone chamber tombs in the west coast as well as in parts of the Yeongsan river area. The ring-pommelled swords only have two-sided bevelled ricasso and wood handle swords also have two-side bevelled ricasso with much narrower hilt. The ring-pommelled swords are mostly large-sized and become much decorative. The wood handle swords increased in number.
Through the investigation of typology of ring-pommelled and wood hand swords from the Mahan and Baekje area, this study suggests that swords of these two kinds may have changed in relation to each other.
