초록

이 연구는 입센의 대표적인 작품 중 <인형의 집>, <유령>, <들오리>, <헤다 가블레르>의 공간을 탐구하는데 그 목적이 있다. ‘극 공간 (dramatic space)’의 분석을 위해 ‘집’을 ‘내부공간’, ‘집 밖’을 ‘외부공간’으로 설정하고, 그 각각의 공간을 다시 ‘가시적인 공간’과 ‘비가시적 공간’으로 세분화하였다. 이러한 구분을 통해 내부공간인 집은 외부공간에서 온 인물들에 의해 끊임없이 침범당하고 있으며, 은폐되어 있던과거의 사실들이 외부공간에서 온 인물들에 의해 폭로되고 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 외부공간의 침입과더불어 내부공간의 붕괴를 가속 시키는 것은 눈에 보이지 않는 비가시적인 공간에 의해서다. 입센은 표면적으로는 지극히 평범한 일상을 그리고 있지만 그 이면에 도사리고 있는 틈새와 균열을 내부/외부공간, 가시적/비가시적 공간의 연관 관계 속에 탁월하게 그려내고 있다.

영어초록

The purpose of this research is to explore the ‘space’ shown in Ibsen’s most well-known works, such as <A Doll’s House>, <Ghosts>, <The Wild Duck>, and <Hedda Gabler>. To analyze the ‘dramatic space’ shown in the plays, the ‘house’ was set as the ‘internal space’ and the ‘outside of the house’ has been set as the ‘external space’ Then, each space has been subdivided into the ‘visible space’ and ‘invisible space’ Through this distinction, we can find out that the interior space (‘house’) is constantly being invaded by figures who came from the ‘external space’, and the facts from the past that has been concealed are being revealed by the figures who came from the ‘external space’.
In addition to the invasion of the ‘external space’, another factor that accelerates the collapse of the internal space is the ‘invisible space’ that cannot be seen with our naked eye. The influence of the ‘invisible space’ is more destructive because it is a space that does not appear on the surface and can only be ‘sensed’ through sounds or lines of the characters. Also, due to the fact that it is not ‘revealed’, it arouses the curiosity of the audience and stimulates their desire to ‘uncover’ the secrets hidden behind the surface. The invisible space, which creates a vague sense of fear and uneasiness among the audience by making them think that while it is concealed, it is still exercising control over the visible events, constantly affects the visible space and plays the role of ‘pulling up’ the hidden past & secrets up to the visible surface.
On the surface, Ibsen focuses on depicting our ‘ordinary’ daily lives. However, if you take a more closer look, you will be able to realize that he excels in showing the ‘cracks’ that lurk below the surface through the relationship between internal/external space and visible/invisible space.
