베트남 결혼이민여성 유아기 자녀의 다중정체성에 관한 질적 연구 (A qualitative study on the multiple identities of the young children of Vietnamese immigrant married women)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 베트남 결혼이민여성 유아기 자녀들의 다중정체성을 탐구하고 유아들의 바람직한 다중정체성 형성을 위해 부모들과 교사들이 요구하는 지원 방안을 살펴보는 것이다. 연구 참여자는 베트남 결혼이민여성 유아기 자녀 9명, 어머니 5명, 아버지 4명, 교사 10명이고 질적 연구 방법을 사용하여 심층면담과 참여관찰을 통해 자료를 수집, 분석했다. 본 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 결혼이민여성 유아기 자녀들의 다중정체성은 자기 정체성(Self Identity), 가족 정체성(Family Identity), 국가 정체성(National Identity)으로 분석되었다. 유아들의 자기 정체성은 ‘성장하는 사람’, ‘능력 있는 사람’, ‘사랑을 주고받는 사람’, ‘특정 집단에 소속된 사람’, ‘친구들과 다른 점이 있는 사람’으로 나타났다. 가족 정체성은 ‘즐거움과 행복을 나누는 사람들’, ‘사랑하고 보살피는 사람들’, ‘한국어와 베트남어를 쓰는 사람들’, ‘소통에 노력이 필요한 사람들’로 나타났다. 마지막으로 국가 정체성은 ‘한국 사람’, ‘베트남 사람’, ‘베트남 사람도 되고 한국 사람도 됨’, ‘모름’으로 나타났다. 둘째, 베트남 결혼이민여성 유아기 자녀들의 바람직한 정체성 형성을 위해 부모들과 교사들은 사회에서 ‘결혼이민여성가족을 보통의 한국 사람으로 생각하기’, ‘유아의 다문화가정 배경에 지나친 관심 자제하기’, ‘다문화가정 배경을 유아의 강점으로 인정하기’, ‘결혼이민여성의 모국문화에 관심 갖기’를 요구했다. 결혼이민여성 유아기 자녀들이 바람직한 다중정체성을 형성하게 하기 위해 이들을 사회구성원으로 존중하고 잠재력을 펼쳐나갈 수 있도록 지원해야 한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the multiple identities of young children of Vietnamese immigrant married women and explore support strategies for helping them establish desirable multiple identities in their parents and teacher’s perspective. The participants of this study were five families who participated in ‘The Program Supporting Korean-Vietnamese Multicultural Families Visiting the Mother’s Parents’ Home’ in 2014 and 2015. In total, 5 Vietnamese immigrant married women, 4 husbands, 9 children, and 10 teachers participated in this study. The researcher used qualitative methods, including in-depth interviews and participatory observations. The findings of this study were as follows: First, the multiple identities of the young children of the marriage immigrant women were composed of sub-elements such as self identities, family identities, and national identities. The self identities of the young children were ‘a growing person,’ ‘a capable person,’ ‘a person who loves and is loved,’ ‘a person who is a member of a certain group,’ and ‘a person who is different in some ways from his/her friends’. The family identities were analyzed to be ‘people who share joy and happiness,’ ‘people who love and care,’ ‘people who use the Vietnamese and Korean languages,’ and ‘people who need to work on communication.’ Lastly, their national identities were ‘Korean,’ ‘Vietnamese’ ‘Vietnamese and Korean,’ or ‘Unknown.’ Second, the parents and the teachers requested that supports are necessary to help the young children of Vietnamese marriage immigrant women form desirable identities. In this respect, specific strategies included ‘viewing the family of marriage immigrant women as normal Koreans,’ ‘refraining from showing too much interest in the multi-cultural background of the children,’ ‘recognizing the multi-cultural background as an advantage for the children,’ and ‘learning about the culture of the home countries of the marriage immigrant women.’ The children have developed their identities in a positive manner but also having difficulties due to their multi-cultural identities. For future research, more in-depth studies and support concerning the identities of the children from the various types of multicultural families and develop educational program in order to help them to become healthy member of society.
