16세기 한중 서원지의 지식사적 의미 (The Meanings of Korean and Chinese Seowonjis from the 16th Century in terms of Knowledge History)

초록

16세기 한･중의 지식인이 書院이란 학술기관을 공통적으로 운영하였다. 이 글에선 한･중의 지식인들이 편찬했던 朝鮮과 明의 書院志를 대상으로 지식사적 의미를 살펴보았다. 명의 서원지 6종과 조선의 서원지 2종에 수록된 장서 목록을 검토하여 현황을 파악하고 이를 통해 지식사적 특징을 확인하였다.
첫 번째, 한･중 서원지를 통해 서적의 기증 사항과 刻板 보유 상황을 파악하여 지식의 유입 및 이동을 확인하였다. 16세기 중엽 백록동서원에선 총 173 종의 서적 중 약 35%인 61종을 8명의 기증자가 기증하였다. 명 백록동서원과 공학서원에서는 각기 9종의 刻板을 수장하여 서원에서 서적을 인출하여 지식을 보급했었던 것을 알 수 있다.
두번째, 서원에서 수장한 서적을 통해 해당 시기의 서적 편찬 유행 및 지식의 정립 양상을 확인할 수 있었다. 명의 서원지에선 16세기 후반으로 갈수록 地理書가 서원의 장서로 다수 확인되어, 해당 시기 지리서가 활발히 편찬되었던 사실을 알 수 있었다.
세 번째, 16세기 한･중의 지식인들이 서원에서 수장한 서적을 비교하여, 이들이 공유했던 지식의 단면을 살필 수 있었다. 22종의 공통 서적은 ① 백록동 서원에선 7종, ② 백록동서원에서 12종, ③ 백천서원에서 4종, ④ 백록동서원 에서 10종, ⑤ 우산서원에서 16종, ⑥ 공학서원에서 1종, Ⓐ 백운동서원에서 17종, Ⓑ 영봉서원에서 16종을 수장하였다.
네 번째, 16세기 한･중의 지식인들은 서원지에 그들의 지식계보인 道統과 學統을 표출하였다. 한･중 지식인들이 정립한 지식계보는 서원지에 기록된 장서의 순서에서도 확인할 수 있다. 16세기 중엽 백록동서원의 지식인은 서적을 기록하는 순서를 통해 주희를 존숭하고, 이정자부터 주희와 육구연으로 연결되는 지식 계보를 나타내었다. 이는 서원지에 道統과 學統을 연결하려 했던 조선의 상황과도 연결되는 지점이다.

영어초록

In the 16th century, Korean and Chinese intellectuals commonly operated an academic institution called seowon(書院). The meaning of the historical knowledge was examined for the books of Joseon and Ming compiled by Korean and Chinese intellectuals. By examining the list of collections contained in the six seowonjis of the Myeong and the two seowonjis of the Joseon Dynasty, the current status was identified, and through this, the characteristics of the history of knowledge were confirmed.
First, through the Korean-Chinese seowonji, the inflow and movement of knowledge was confirmed by identifying the contents of book donations and the holding status of bookshelves. In the middle of the 16th century, among the 173 books in Baengnok-dongseowon, about 35%, or 61, were donated by 8 donors. It can be seen that the famous Baeknok-dongseowon and Gonghakseowon stored 9 kinds of books, and they fetched books from the seowon to spread knowledge.
Second, through the books stored in the seowon, it was possible to confirm the trend of book compilation and the establishment of knowledge in that period. In the seowonji of Myeongmyung, more and more geography books were identified as the collection of seowons toward the end of the 16th century, suggesting that geography books were actively compiled during that time.
Third, by comparing the books stored in the seowon by Korean and Chinese intellectuals in the 16th century, it was possible to examine the cross-section of knowledge they shared. The 22 common books are ① 7 types at Baengnok-dongseowon, ② 12 types at Baengnok-dongseowon, ③ 4 types at Baekcheonseowon, ④ 10 types at Baengnok-dongseowon, ⑤ 16 types at Usanseowon, ⑥ 1 type at Gonghakseowon , Ⓐ 17 species were stored in Baekundong seowon, Ⓑ 16 species were stored in Yeongbong seowon.
Fourth, in the 16th century, Korean and Chinese intellectuals expressed their genealogy of knowledge, orthodox lineage of the Way(道 統) and Confucianism, in the Seowonji. The genealogy of knowledge established by Korean and Chinese intellectuals can also be confirmed in the order of the collections recorded in the Seowon. In the middle of the 16th century, the intellectuals of Baengnok-dongseowon revered Zhu Xi (朱熹) through the order of writing books, and showed a genealogy of knowledge from Two-Cheng(二程) to Zhu Xi and Jiuyuan(陸九淵). This is also the point of connection with the situation of Joseon, which tried to connect the seowonji with the seowonji.
