경찰공무원의 우울증이 음주와 흡연에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Depression on Drinking and Smoking among Police Officers)

초록

이 연구에서는 경찰공무원의 우울증을 독립변수로 설정하고, 경찰공무원의 음주와 흡연 정도를 종속변수로 설정하여, 경찰공무원의 우울증이 음주와 흡연 행위에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 파악하고자 하였다.
독립변수인 경찰공무원의 우울증은 한국어판 우울증 선별도구(PHQ- 9)를 활용하여 조사하였는데, 조사대 상자의 우울증은 전반적으로 높은 수준은 아니었지만, 가벼운 수준 이상의 우울증을 겪는 경우도 30% 이상에 달하였다. 종속변수인 경찰공무원의 음주 및 흡연 정도를 파악하기 위해서 음주는 최근 1개월 동안 음주 경험 유무, 음주 경험이 있는 경우 음주 빈도 및 음주량을 확인하였고, 흡연은 흡연 여부, 흡연량, 흡연 동기를 확인하였다. 그 결과, 경찰공무원의 음주 정도는 음주율, 음주 빈도, 음주량 모두 일반 시민에 비하여 매우 높은 수준이었고, 경찰공무원의 흡연 정도도 일반 시민에 비하여 상당히 높은 수준으로 나타났다.
경찰공무원의 우울증 수준이 음주 및 흡연에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위하여 조사대상자의 우울증 수준과 음주 경험 유무와 흡연 여부, 흡연 동기는 집단별 평균을 분산분석(ANOVA)하였고, 우울증 수준과 음주 빈도, 음주량, 흡연량은 회귀분석을 하였다.
조사대상자의 우울증 수준과 음주 경험 유무와 흡연 여부, 흡연 동기를 요인으로 하여 집단별 평균을 분산분석(ANOVA)한 결과, 모두 통계적으로 유의미한 수준은 아니었으나, 음주 및 흡연 경험이 있는 경우와 스트레스로 인한 흡연자의 경우에 우울증 수준이 다소 높게 나타났다.
조사대상자의 우울증 수준과 음주량과 흡연량을 회귀 분석한 결과는 통계적으로 유의미한 결과가 나타나 지는 않았으나, 우울증 수준과 음주 빈도를 회귀 분석한 결과에서는 통계적으로 유의미한 부적인 관계가 확인되었다.

영어초록

This study set police officers' depression as an independent variable and police officers' drinking and smoking levels as dependent variables to empirically identify effects of depression on drinking and smoking among police officers.
The independent variable, police officers' depression, was investigated using the Korean version of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9(PHQ-9). The overall level of depression among the subjects was not high, but more than 30% of them suffered from mild or higher levels of depression. In order to determine the level of drinking and smoking among police officers, which is the dependent variable, I checked whether they had ever drunk in the past month, and if so, the frequency and amount of drinking. For smoking, I checked whether they smoked, the amount they smoked, and the reason for smoking. As a result, the drinking levels of police officers were much higher than those of the general public in terms of drinking rate, drinking frequency, and drinking amount, and the smoking levels of police officers were also considerably higher than those of the general public.
In order to determine effects of depression levels on drinking and smoking among police officers, the subjects' depression levels, drinking and smoking experiences, the reason for smoking were analyzed using Analysis of Variance(ANOVA) on the group averages, and the depression levels, drinking frequency, drinking amount, and smoking amount were analyzed using regression analysis.
The results of Analysis of Variance(ANOVA) of the group averages by considering the subjects' level of depression, drinking and smoking experiences and the reason for smoking as factors showed that none of the results were statistically significant, but the level of depression was somewhat higher in those who had drinking and smoking experiences and those who smoked due to stress.
The results of regression analysis of the subjects' depression level and the amount of alcohol and smoking did not show statistically significant results, but a regression analysis of the depression level and drinking frequency confirmed a statistically significant negative relationship.
