초록

易學史에 있어서 『周易』에 대한 해석관점은 크게 象數易과 義理易으로 나누어진다. 象數易은 『周易』의 기호와 언어가 밀접한 관련이 있음을 전제로 하여 그 매개인 象과 그에 적용되는 규칙에 따라 『周易』의 卦爻辭를 해석하려는 것으로서 漢代부터 성행하기 시작하였다. 義理易은 象數易의 방법에 견강부회의 요소가 많다고 비판하면서 『周易』을 주로 人事와 관련시킨 것으로서 魏晉時代부터 시작하여 이후 『周易』해석의 중요한 관점이 되었다. 茶山 丁若鏞은 이러한 두 학파의 관점을 섭렵, 그 내용들을 분석, 종합하면서도 象數易의 입장에서 『周易』을 해석하였다. 다만 그는 이전의 象數易의 해석방법에 불충분한 부분이 많아서 義理易의 비판을 받는 것이라 여기고, 그가 타당하다고 생각하는 『周易』 해석방법을 체계화하였다. 본 논문은 丁若鏞의 『周易』해석방법이 실제로 어떻게 『周易』의 卦爻辭해석에 쓰였는지를 검증하기 위해 쓰인 것으로서, 『周易』 텍스트 중에서도 坤卦의 卦爻辭를 선택하여 이러한 시도를 해본 것이다.

영어초록

In the history of the interpretation of 『the Book of Changes』, there has been two major trends, that is the Doctrine of Images and Numbers and the Doctrine of the principles of righteousness in the interpretation of 『the Book of Changes』. The former, beginning to be prevalent in the Han dynasty, asserts that the symbol and language used in the text of 『the Book of Changes』 are related each other, so asserts that the languages of hexagram and lines of the hexagram in 『the Book of Changes』should be interpreted, given the images of 『the Book of Changes』 and the rules related to them. The latter criticizes the former for the methods of the former having many forced analogies, preferably relating 『the Book of Changes』 to human affairs. The methods of the latter began in the age of Wei-Jin dynasty, from that time being prevalent for some time. Yagyong Jung, Tasan had read through books covering many sorts of fields of those two major trends, analyzed and synthesized the contents, preferably standing on the view of the Doctrine of Images and Numbers. But he thought that in the interpretation of 『the Book of Changes』the method of the view of the Doctrine of Images and Numbers had been criticized by the Doctrine of the principles of righteousness, so he had systematized the method of the interpretation of 『the Book of Changes』 which was valid, in viewing from his point of view. This treatise has been written to verify how his method of the interpretation of 『the Book of Changes』could be applied actually in the interpretation on the languages of hexagrams and lines in 『the Book of Changes』. The languages of hexagram and lines of the hexagram of Kun in the text of 『the Book of Changes』 have been selected for that task.
