초록

본 논문은 중앙기구를 목표로 창립된 조선체육회의 위상과 역할을 실증적으로 규명하고자 하였다. 조선체육회는 1920년 스포츠 활동을 지도·장려하는 중앙기구를 목표로 창립되었다. 조선체육회는 ‘전조선대회’를 개최하여 스포츠 활동을 지도·장려하는 중앙기구로 위상을 확립하고자 했다. 하지만 초기 조선체육회의 ‘전조선대회’는 각종 분규가 이어졌고 분규를 처리하는 과정에서 조선체육회의 지도력은 점차 약화되었다. 그리고 조선체육회의 전조선체육대회는 경성지역에 국한된 지역적 한계를 가지고 있었다.
1924년 조선체육회는 전조선대회의 문제를 해결하기 위해서 운영제도를 개편하고 지부설치와 지방예선대회 개최를 추진하였다. 하지만 지부 설치는 실패하였고 지방예선대회도 개최하지 못하였다. 조선체육회는 지방부를 폐지하고 지부 설치를 유보하였다. 대신에 중앙으로서 권위를 먼저 확보하고자 하였다. 주관하는 운동 종목을 확대하고 종합경기대회를 개최하였다.
조선체육회는 식민지시기 조선인 스포츠 활동을 대표하는 체육단체였지만 1920년대 중앙기구로 기능하지 못하였다. 중앙기구가 부재한 상황에서 지역체육단체들은 지역을 기반으로 활동을 전개했다. 그 결과 스포츠 활동은 전국적으로 활발하게 전개되었지만 분산된 형태로 진행되어 전국적 규모의 대회는 개최하지 못하였다.

This paper tried to empirically identify the status and role of the Korean Sports Association(朝鮮體育會), which was established with the aim of becoming a central organization. Korean Sports Association(朝鮮體育會) was founded in 1920 with the aim of becoming a central organization that guides and encourages sports activities. Korean Sports Association(朝鮮體育會) tried to establish its status as a central organization that guides and encourages sports activities by hosting the ‘All Chosun Competition’. However, in the early Korean Sports Association(朝鮮體育會)’s ‘All Chosun Competition’, various complication continued, and in the process of handling the complication, the leadership of the Korean Sports Association(朝鮮體育會) gradually weakened. And ‘All Chosun Competition’ had regional limitations that were limited to the Gyeongseong area.
In 1924, the Korean Sports Association(朝鮮體育會) reorganized its operating system to solve the problems of the ‘All Chosun Competition’, and promoted the establishment of branches and holding of local qualifiers. However, the establishment of the branch failed, and the local preliminaries could not be held. The Korean Sports Association(朝鮮體育會) abolished the local branch and postponed the establishment of the branch. Instead, it tried to secure authority as the central organization first. Organized sports events were expanded and comprehensive competitions were held.
The Korean Sports Association(朝鮮體育會) was a sports organization representing Korean sports activities during the colonial period, but it failed to function as a central organization in the 1920s. In the absence of a central organization, local athletic organization conducted activities based on the region. As a result, sports activities were actively developed nationwide, but national-scale competitions were not held because they were conducted in a dispersed form.
