초록

Objective: To describe the Yin-Yang Exterior-Interior Upward-Downward model of Soeumin and Soyangin via their disease patterns.




Method: Relevant papers and medical works were collected, and a narrative method was applied based on the medical texts.




Results: The location of the Spleen and Kidneys is considered to be posterior to the Stomach and Large Intestine, respectively. In Soeumin's pathological view, Exterior Yang Qi ascends from the buttocks (Bladder) to the back of the chest in cases of Exterior disease. Interior Yin Qi descends from the Stomach to the Large Intestine due to the accumulation of Yang Qi, initially in the Large Intestine with Taiyin disease and in the Stomach during the emergent stage of Shaoyin disease. In Soyangin's pathological view, Exterior Yin Qi descends from the back of the chest to the buttocks (Bladder), contrary to the Soeumin pattern. Interior Yang Qi ascends from the Large Intestine to the Stomach due to the accumulation of Yin Qi in the Large Intestine and Kidneys. The nature of Interior Yang Qi is considered to be Yin Cold Qi.




Discussion: In this article, Yin Qi and Yang Qi were allocated to each organ based on the size and activity of the major and minor organs associated with each type. According to Lee Jema's view, Yin Qi must descend, and Yang Qi must ascend, regardless of the Qi's properties. One controversial concept is Chengyang (Clear Yang), which, despite having Yang in its name, actually exhibits Yin properties. The descending Yin Qi in Soeumin and the ascending Yang Qi in Soyangin are critical to understanding this viewpoint. Therefore, when each area accumulates its respective Qi property, the concept of Qi movement becomes more easily comprehended.




Conclusion: Ascending Exterior Yang Qi, descending Interior Yin Qi, descending Exterior Yin Qi, and ascending Interior Yang Qi are the primary Qi movements in the pathological states of Soeumin and Soyangin. To better understand this concept, it is essential to consider the allocation of Yin Qi and Yang Qi in each organ, as well as their overall accumulation.
