한국과 미국 청소년들의 음주행위에 관한 비교 연구 : 사회학습이론을 중심으로 (A Comparative Study of Drinking Behavior by Korean and American Adolescents Focusing on Social Learning Theory)

초록

이 연구의 목적은 Akers의 사회학습변인들(정의, 차별적 강화, 모방, 차별적 접촉)이 한국과 미국 청소년들의 음주행위에 미치는 영향을 비교 분석하는 데 있다. 이 연구에 사용된 미국 데이터는 자기기입식 설문지를 통해 추출된 3,065명의 미국 중서부지역(Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin) 남, 여 7학년~12학년까지의 중, 고등학생들이고, 한국 데이터는 자기기입식 설문지를 통해 추출된 1,035명의 부산지역 남여, 인문계, 실업계 고등학생들이다. 구조방정식모델을 이용하여 한국과 미국모델을 분석한 결과, 측정모델에서는 양쪽 다 통계적으로 유의미한 수준으로 잠재변수들이 잘 측정되었다. 하지만 구조모델 분석에서 한국의 경우, ‘정의’변인에서 ‘음주행위’로의 경로도가 유의미한 것으로 나타났지만, 미국의 경우, 유의미하지 않은 것으로 나타났으므로 미국 청소년들이 음주에 대한 긍정적 또는 중립적 생각이 강하고 부정적 생각이 약할수록 청소년 자신이 음주를 남용할 가능성이 많아진다는 연구가설은 기각되었다. 본 연구는 사회학습이론에서 추출된 동일한 측정도구(변인들)를 사용하여 한국 청소년들의 음주행위의 원인을 미국과 직접 비교하는데 주력한 연구라는 중요한 의미를 가진다. 특히 이 연구에 사용된 사회학습이론은 한국 청소년들의 음주행위를 잘 설명하는 변인들이라는 사실이 밝혀짐에 따라 사회학습이론에서 제시하는 청소년 음주행위에 관한 예방프로그램이 한국 사회에서도 큰 효과를 거둘 수 있다는 사실을 암시한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to compare with drinking behavior by Korean and American adolescents using the variables derived from Akers' social learning theory in the structural equation model. The data of American case came from a questionnaire survey among a sample of students in 7-12 grade level in Midwest, including Nebraska, Iowa, and Wisconsin. The total sample size was 3,065 students. In the meanwhile, the data of Korean case came from a sample of high school students in Pusan and sample size was 1,035 individuals. In the comparison of Korean and American adolescents' drinking behaviors for the measurement model, both of data reveal that latent variables from social learning theory are significantly well measured. However, in the analysis of structural model, the path diagram from definition to drinking behavior is statistically significant in the Korean data, but not American data. In the squared multiple correlation (), American data are lower than Korean data. That is, Social learning theory offers an explanation of adolescents' drinking behavior in Korea that is empirically supported to a much greater degree than in America. Thus, latent variables are a far better tool for explanation of Korean adolescents' drinking behavior than American adolescents. There is an absence of research to direct evaluate comparing Korean and American deviant behaviors using social learning theory in Korea. In Korea most research has been largely limited to descriptive reports that deal with incidence and prevalence of alcohol use and ignored theoretical questioned. Thus, the present research is the first study to compare with Korean and American adolescents' drinking behavior using the variables derived from Akers' social learning theory in the structural equation model and makes important contributions toward the further utilization of social learning in investigating many of the damaging forms of social deviance which exist in Korean society.
