海左 丁範祖의 함경도 유배기 漢詩 일고찰 (A study of chinese poems written by Jeong Beom-jo in exile)

초록

이 글은 해좌 정범조(1723～1801)가 1771년 4개월간의 함경도 갑산 유배기에 지은 한시의 특징을 살펴본 것이다. 해좌의 文友인 餘窩 睦萬中(1727～?)은 이 시기 해좌의 시가 ‘地境’의 차이로 인해 예전의 시보다 향상되었다고 언급하였다. 처한 환경에 따른 작가의 감수성 변화로 시의 수준이 고양된 점을 지적한 것이다. 이는 해좌의 문학론과도 합치되고 있다는 점에서 주목된다. 해좌는 과거의 법식에 얽매이지 말고 현실을 시 속에 담아야 할 것을 주장했으며, 현실의 경물과 접촉하여 일어난 시인의 창작 영감, 즉 機神의 표출을 중시했다. 또한 사물과 성정의 본질을 파악하여 이를 진실하게 드러낸 시야말로 ‘眞詩’라고 주장했다.
함경도 유배기의 시는 바로 이러한 해좌의 문학론이 구현된 양상을 보여준다. 그는 함경도의 독특한 자연환경과 생활문제를 포착하여, 함경도의 진면목을 사실적으로 형상화하였다. 또한 그는 유배 체험이 일으킨 내면의 다양한 정감들을 진솔하게 표현하였다. 해좌는 이 시기에 적극적인 창작 의식을 발휘하여 시의 진정성을 끌어올렸고, 자신의 문학적 견해를 실천했던 것이다. 결국 유배지였던 함경도라는 공간의 특이성, 곧 ‘地境’의 차이가 해좌의 시에 이전에는 존재하지 않았던 새로운 詩境을 이끌어 내면서 이루어낸 시의 수준을 확인할 수 있다.

영어초록

Haejwa Jeong Beom-jo(1723-1801) is a literary man who inherited the poetic genealogy of Southerners, and his high literary achievements were acknowledged by people in his days. Among his Chinese poems, however, only some created in his early days and long ancient‐style poems drew attention. For in-depth understanding of Haejwa's poetry, this study gave attention to the period of exile to Gapsan, Hamgyeong-do for four months in 1771. Yeowa Mok Man-jung (1727-?), a renowned poet in those days, pointed out that Haejwa's poems during the period were distinguished by the difference in circumstances. This statement suggests that the poet's sensitivity was influenced by the situation that he was placed in and enhanced the level of his poetry. This statement needs to be spotlighted in that it is consistent with Haejwa's view of literature. Haejwa maintained that a poet should reveal his time and space in his poems without being bound by old rules and that the key element is the representation of the poet’s inspiration from real scenes. Moreover, he expressed the opinion that ‘true poetry’ can be written when the poet understands the true nature of things and characters and describes them truthfully.
In this sense, Haejwa's Chinese poems written to express the space of Hamgyeong-do with unique natural features and his special experience in the exile provide a implication for capturing the pattern that Haejwa's view of literature was implemented. In this study, we examined the pattern, focusing on his Chinese poems expressing his interest in the phenomenological peculiarity of the strange space and the life of people in the province. Next, this study analyzed how changes in his inner sentiment caused by the experience in exile led to his poetic achievements. Through these works, we attempted to explain the influence of difference in circumstances on his poetic authenticity.
