廣開土王陵碑의 문장구성과 서사구조 (Sentence composition and narrative from the Gwang’gae’to-wang Monument(廣開土王陵碑))

초록

廣開土王陵碑는 일반적으로 序頭, 勳績記事, 守墓人烟戶條 등 세 段落으로이루어졌다고 이해된다. 그런데 陵碑는 4자나 6자 등 韻文的 要素가 강한 文章으로 찬술되었다. 또한 陵碑의 序頭는 終決詞를 사용하여 段落을 細分하였지만, ‘其辭曰’ 이후의 勳績記事와 守墓人烟戶條는 마지막의 ‘之’자를 제외하면 終決詞를 전혀 사용하지 않았다. 이러한 陵碑의 구성은 漢代 墓碑의 형식과 유사하다. 漢代 墓碑에서도 序言은 종결사를 사용하여 단락을 세분한 반면, ‘其辭曰’로 시작하는 銘辭는 4言 韻文으로 종결사를 사용하지 않았다. 능비는 序言[A]과 銘辭[B] 등 두 단락으로 구성되었으며, 특히 훈적기사와 수묘인연호조는 漢代 墓碑의 銘辭에 해당하는 하나의 단락을 이루었던 것이다.
그렇지만 내용상 陵碑의 敍事構造는 漢代 墓碑와 많은 차이가 있다. 陵碑의 ‘序言’에서는 亡者의 功績뿐 아니라 始祖와 歷代 先王의 事績을 강조하고있다. 이는 당시 歷代 先王의 系譜와 事績을 중시하던 葬送儀禮의 誄辭를 바탕으로 碑文을 撰述한 결과이며, 단일한 王系의 定立 및 國王 중심 陵墓 管理體系의 확립과 밀접히 연관된다. 그리고 ‘銘辭’에 廣開土王의 勳績과 守墓人烟戶 관련 사항을 통합하여 기술한 것은 廣開土王의 守墓碑 건립 전통을계승하여 陵碑를 건립한 결과로 파악된다.
그리하여 廣開土王陵碑는 葬送儀禮의 誄辭와 守墓人烟戶 관련 사항을 결합시킨 독특한 敍事構造를 갖게 되었다. 陵碑 건립을 주도한 長壽王은 이러한 敍事構造를 통해 始祖로부터 면면히 이어지는 王位繼承의 單一性과 父王의 위대한 勳績을 강조함과 더불어, 자신이 歷代 王陵의 유일한 守護者이자公民에 대한 支配者임을 선포할 수 있었다. 결국 陵碑의 독특한 敍事構造는廣開土王의 葬送儀禮를 主管하면서 新王으로 탄생한 長壽王의 國王權을 대내외에 表出하기 위한 장치였던 것이다.

영어초록

The text inscribed upon the Gwang’gae’to-wang Monument iscomposed of three parts, the “Foreword(序頭),” documentation of theking’s achievements(“勳績記事”), and the section containing informationof the burial mound guardian households(“Su’myo-in Yeon’ho, 守墓人烟戶”). The text is written in verse-like sentences containing either fouror six letters. The ‘foreword’ used termination points which indicatedthe beginning and end of paragraphs, but the ‘achievement’ section andthe ‘Su’myo-in’ section after the ‘其辭曰’ part did not use such method,except the ‘之’ at the end of the sentence. The composition and layoutof the text looks similar to those of the tomb epitaphs(墓碑) of the Han(漢)dynasty period. In such Han dynasty cases, the foreword did usetermination points for the paragraphs, but the main section(“銘辭”)beginning with ‘其辭曰’ used 4-letter verses(4言韻文) and did not usetermination points. The Gwang’gae’to-wang Monument text wascomposed of Foreword(序言[A]) and the main section(銘辭[B]), and the‘achievement’ section and the ‘Su’myo-in’ section formed one bigparagraph just like their Han dynasty counterparts.
But the narrative structure of the Gwang’gae’to-wang Monument isconsiderably different from those of the Han dynasty tomb epitaphs.
Described in the foreword are not only the achievements of KingGwang’gae’to-wang but also the history of the ancestors. This is becausethe text was based upon eulogies(“Rwe’sa, 誄辭”) dictated in the funeraland farewell protocols(葬送儀禮) which considered the lineage andhistory of the past ancestor kings to be very important. This was relatedto the issue of establishing a royal lineage and finalizing the managementsystem of the royal mausoleums. And it seems that the ‘achievement’section and the ‘Su’myo-in’ section are merged with each other in themain section(‘銘辭’), with an intention to inherit KingGwang’gae’to-wang’s tradition of erecting tomb-guarding monuments.
So the Gwang’gae’to-wang Monument came to have a unique narrativestructure, showing the section containing a eulogy dictated by the funeralprotocol and the section containing information of the tomb-guardinghouseholds, combined with each other. King Jangsu-wang, who led thetask of erecting the monument for King Gwang’gae’to-wang used thiskind of narrative structure to emphasize upon the singular nature ofthe royal lineage and his father’s incredible accomplishments, anddeclared that he was the one and only guardian of the mausoleums forpast kings as well as the ruler of the general population. In other words,this unique narrative structure served to enhance and reinforce newking Jangsu-wang’s leadership, and to demonstrate it to the entirecountry.
