초등 사회과 온라인 수업의 가능성과 한계 (The Potentials and Limits of Online Classes in Primary Social Studies)

초록

목적 본 연구는 현장 교사의 경험을 기반으로 초등 사회과 온라인 수업의 가능성과 한계를 파악하고자 하였다.
방법 이를 위해 수도권 소재 초등학교 교사 6명을 대상으로 심층 면담을 하여 자료를 수집하였다. 수집한 자료는 녹음한 면담자료, 교사들이 제출한 수업자료, 연구자의 메모 등이었다. 심층 면담 자료는 모두 전사하였으며 개방 코딩 후 범주화 작업을 진행하였다.
분석의 타당성과 신뢰도를 확보하기 위해 다른 자료를 비교⋅분석하며 코딩하였고 연구조력자 2인과 토의 및 협의 과정을 거쳐 범주를 도출하였다.
결과 분석 결과, 초등 사회과 온라인 수업의 가능성 및 한계와 관련해 총 14개 범주가 도출되었다. 사회과 온라인 수업의 가능성범주는 “온라인 수업에 적합한 교과”, “다양한 모형의 수업 구안 가능”, “사회과 수업에서 공간적 한계 극복”, “학생 중심 탐구 수업의구현”, “블랜디드러닝을 통한 학습효과 극대화”, “평가결과 누적에 따른 공정성 확보”, “평가 운영의 편리함”이었다. 한계에 속하는범주는 “정책변화에 따른 지속가능성 여부”, “오프라인 수업에 최적화된 교사 역량”, “수업 환경 등 학습자 변인에 따른 문제”, “즉각적 피드백, 탄력적 수업 운영의 어려움”, “실제 상황과 온라인 상황 간의 차이”, “가치⋅태도 평가의 어려움”, “피평가자의 윤리성문제”였다.
결론 사회과 온라인 수업은 교실이라는 공간적 한계를 넘어 학생 주도의 탐구 수업을 실행할 수 있고 평가에서 공정성과 편의성 확보가 가능하다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 그러나 정책변화로 온라인 수업의 지속성 여부가 불투명하며, 학습자의 변인에 따른 영향이크고 가치나 태도 평가가 어렵다는 한계도 드러났다. 이와 같은 연구 결과를 바탕으로 사회과 온라인 수업의 설계 및 구성 방안 등과관련한 실행 연구 및 교사 교육의 필요성, 온라인 학습 상황에서의 학생 관련 연구의 실행 및 지원 방안 모색, 통합적인 학습관리시스템⋅교수-학습플랫폼 마련, 지속성 있고 일관성 있는 정책 및 지원을 시사점으로 제시하였다.

영어초록

Objectives The purpose of this study was to focus on the experiences of field teachers to identify the possibilities and limits of social studies online classes and design the future education plan.
Methods To achieve this goal, in-depth interviews were conducted on 6 elementary school teachers in the metropolitan area, and data was collected. The gathered data was analyzed by discussing and consulting with 2 re search facilitators.
Results Based on the analysis findings, 14 categories were deduced about the potentials and limits of primary social studies online courses. The categories for the potentials of social studies online classes include “a curricu lum fitting to online classes”, “possibilities of designing various class models”, “overcoming spatial limitations in social studies class”, “actualization of student-centered inquiry learning”, “optimized learning effects through blended learning”, “securement of fairness through the accumulation of evaluation result” and “convenience of evaluation operation”. The factors categorized as the limits are “the status of sustainability followed by policy changes”, “teacher capacity optimized for offline class”, “problems of learner variables like the class environment”, “difficulties in providing immediate feedback and flexible class operation”, “differences between the actual sit uation and online situation”, “difficulties in values and attitude assessment” and “the issue of ethicality for the ap praisee”.
Conclusions As a result, online class overcomes the spatial limits of social studies class and can implement stu dent-centered inquiry class, and it was identified in the assessment that fairness and convenience can be se cured through it. However, many limits were revealed in which it is difficult to perform continued research be cause of the ever-changing policies, learner variables cause a significant influence, and it is hard to evaluate the values or the attitudes. Based on the research findings, this study suggested implications about the action re search related to the design and arrangement measures of social studies online class and the necessity of teacher education as well as varied support plans for students in the online class and sustainable and consistent policies and support.
