일제시기 어시장 현황과 어시장 수산물의 유통 (The Status of Fish Market during Japanese Colonial Era & Distribution of Marine Products in Fish Market)

초록

개항장을 중심으로 생겨난 어시장은 식민지시기 수산물의 유통구조에 많은 영향 미쳤다. 이에 식민지시기 어시장 연구는 근대적 수산물 유통체계를 이해하는데 있어 중요한 관건이 된다. 기존의 어시장에 대한 개별 연구들을 통해 수산물 유통에서 어시장이 차지했던 중요성이 어느 정도 밝혀지게 되었다. 그러나 기존 연구는 어시장 이외의 수산물 유통기관들과 비교가 부족했기 때문에 전체적인 수산물 유통에서 어시장이 갖고 있었던 지위와 역할을 명확하게 부각시키지를 못했다.
본 논문은 식민지시기 어시장의 지역별 실태와 시기별 변화, 특히 식민지시기 수산물의 전체적인 유통과정을 분석하고 그 속에서 어시장이 어떤 기능과 역할을 하였는지, 또 수산물의 수이출에서 어시장이 차지했던 비중이 어느 정도였는가 하는 문제 등을 밝혀보고자 하였다.
그 결과 식민지시기 전체 수산물 유통에서 어시장이 차지했던 비중은 1928년 11.8%에서 1937년 6.5%로 감소하였음을 알 수 있었다. 이처럼 수산물 판매에서 어시장 비중이 감소했던 것은 어업조합과 전통시장에서 수산물 판매액이 증가했기 때문이었다. 한편 어시장의 수산물 판매에서 지역별 현황을 보면 항상 1위는 경남, 2위는 경기도였다. 이들 두 지역 어시장 수산물 판매액은 어시장 전체 판매액 가운데 56%~78%를 차지했다. 전국의 어시장에서 경남과 경기, 두 지역 어시장이 중심된 역할을 할 수 있었던 것은 부산어시장과 경성어시장의 역할이 있었기 때문이다. 그러나 경남과 경기 두 지역의 어시장은 수산물 유통과 판매에서 대조를 이루었다. 경기지역 어시장의 수산물은 거의 국내에서만 판매된 반면에, 경남지역 어시장 수산물은 국내 판매가 24%~44%에 불과했다. 그 외 56%~76% 수산물은 일본과 만주 등으로 수이출되고 있었다. 이는 전국 어시장 수산물의 국내외 유통에서 견인차 역할을 했던 곳이 경남지역 어시장이었음을 확인시켜 준다.

영어초록

Fish markets were developed around open ports, affecting distribution system of marine products while going through the colonial era. Therefore, the study for fish market during the colonial area is important to understand the stage for establishment of marine products distribution system in modern era. In the existing studies for fish markets by regions, it has revealed how fish markets were important for distribution of marine products. Still, the existing studies did not compare other bodies for distribution of marine products with the fish markets enough, so they did not clearly highlight the position and role of fish markets in the entire distribution system of marine products. Therefore, this study is intended to find out status by regions of fish markets during the colonial area, the entire distribution system of marine products during the era, and the feature and role of fish market in that system. Also, by further reviewing distribution in fish markets both to Korea and abroad, we'll find out how fish market were important in distribution of marine products during the colonial era.
As a result, the sales volume of marine products in fish market has been increased from 11.8% in 1928 to 6.5% in 1937. The reason of this trend is that the sales volume of those in fisherman's union and traditional market has been increased. The sales volume of those in traditional market has been increased from 25% in 1928, in the distribution system, to 32.8% in 1937. This increase suggests double supply network, which was built in the colonial era, that fish market focused on fresh fish and traditional market focused on salted fish co-existed for a long time. So far, 1st rank of total sales volume of marine products in fish market is Gyeongnam, and 2nd rank is Gyeong-gi. They accounted for 56~78% of total sales volume of those. The reason why they became major roles in fish markets were Busan fish market and Gyeongseong fish market. Still, they were not the same in how to sell the products. The market in Gyeong-gi sold most of the products in Korea while the market in Gyeongnam sold about 24~44% of those in Korea and 56~76% in Japan and Manchuria. We can find out that Gyeongnam fish market played the critical role for distributing marine products both in Korea and aborad.
