Purposes: This study aimed to identify factors influencing breast cancer screening among women with disabilities and to provide foundational data to inform regional health policy development related to cancer screening in this population.
Methodology: This study employed a comprehensive survey based on big data analysis of breast cancer screening among women with disabilities aged 40 and older, using data from 2011 to 2020 obtained from the National Health Insurance Corporation. A multilevel logistic regression analysis was conducted at both the individual and regional levels to assess regional variation and influencing factors. Statistical analysis was performed using SAS Enterprise Guide Version 8.2 (SAS Inc., Cary, NC, USA).
Findings: The odds of undergoing breast cancer screening were highest among women in their 60s, those with mild disabilities, individuals with physical impairments, employed insurance subscribers, and those in the 5th to 10th insurance premium quartiles. With respect to regional characteristics, screening participation was higher in rural areas. At the regional level, greater availability of doctors per 1,000 population, more social welfare facilities per 100,000 population, and higher overall breast cancer screening rates were positively associated with increased screening participation among women with disabilities.
Practical Implications: These findings highlight the importance of increasing public awareness of breast cancer screening and ensuring that services are accessible to women with disabilities. Ongoing efforts should focus on creating screening environments that accommodate varying needs and minimize any challenges related to disability. Additionally, it is essential to establish a responsive feedback mechanism that recognizes and addresses the unique concerns of individuals with disabilities within healthcare systems and broader society.
