This paper focuses on the rebellion of Togachi(脱火赤) that occurred due to the issue of succession to the throne during the reign of Renzong(仁宗) in the Yuan dynasty and the activities of the Kipchak Junqur who subjugated it. When Wuzong(武宗)'s eldest son, Qošila(和世㻋), was in danger of losing his right to heir to the throne by Renzong, his aides led a coup in 1316. However, the coup failed and Qošila fled to Chagatai Ulus. Togachi, who was a former subject of Wuzong and who led the war between Yuan and Chagatai Ulus to victory in 1314, revolted against Renzong shortly after Qošila's exile. On the other hand, Jungkur, who served Wuzong like Togachi and participated in the war against Chagatai Ulus, subdued the rebellion and was treated like the royal family by Renzong. The Kipchak Junqur were the heirs of the Tuqtaq(土土哈) family, who had been active since the reign of Kubilai, and controlled the Kipchak army. He was also elevated to his status, as he had merited Wuzong's rise to the throne. Junqur's activities during the reign of Renzong have only a brief record that he contributed to the war against Chagatai Ulus and the rebellion of Togachi, but no detailed information is provided. In particular, although the Togachi's rebellion was a very important event for the Renzong regime, it is unnatural that there are few records of it. Also, the fact that Junqur subjugated Togachi's rebellion was an achievement that deserves to be recorded, but it is not mentioned at all in biography of Yuanshi(元史) and in “Stele Inscription Dedicated to the Accomplishment of the Ancestors of the Prince of Jurong(句容郡王世績碑).” This examination of the political situation and position of Junqur before and after the rebellion of Togachi reveals the reason for the omission of the record. Accordingly, this paper will examine the political position of Junqur by examining the political and social status and treatment of Junqur during the reign of Renzong. Moreover, this research reveals that Junqur's subjugation of the Togachi's rebellion was a different choice from his original political position, and discuss why Junqur made such a choice.
