복지서비스 이용이 저소득 가구 청소년의 심리사회적 적응에 미치는 영향: 다중회귀분석과 경향점수분석의 비교 (The effects of using welfare services on the psychosocial adjustment of low-income adolescents: Comparison of results between multiple regression analysis and propensity score weight method)

초록

본 연구는 청소년 가구원이 있는 저소득 가구의 청소년관련 복지서비스 이용이 청소년의 심리사회적 적응에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보았다. 이를 위해 한국복지패널 1차년도부터 4차년도까지의 자료를 사용하였으며, 4년간에 걸쳐 이용한 상담․방과후 지도․예체능교실·문화활동 중 만족도가 높은 복지서비스의 종류를 합하여 만족한 복지서비스 이용여부가 청소년의 우울 및 불안, 위축, 비행, 공격성에 미치는 영향을 측정하였다. 또한 복지서비스를 이용할 확률이 높은 집단이 복지서비스를 이용함으로써 결과적으로 복지서비스의 효과가 부정적으로 측정되는 선택편의를 줄이고자 경향점수 가중치 방법을 적용하였다. 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 복지서비스 이용이 청소년의 심리사회적 적응에 부정적인 영향을 미친다는 다중회귀분석 결과와 달리, 경향점수 가중치를 적용하였을 때 복지서비스 이용은 청소년의 심리사회적 적응에 아무런 영향을 미치지 않았다. 둘째, 선택편의 제거 수준에 따라 복지서비스를 이용한 청소년 집단과 그렇지 않은 청소년 집단 간에는 심리사회적 적응 수준의 차이가 발견되었으며 이는 경향점수 가중치를 통해 두 집단이 동질한 집단으로 조정되었다는 것을 보여준다. 셋째, 본 연구는 상담 서비스뿐만 아니라 방과후 지도․예체능교실․문화활동도 청소년의 심리사회적 적응에 긍정적인 영향을 미치리라는 점을 시사한다. 본 연구는 복지서비스가 전반적인 청소년발달에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위한 기초연구로, 본 연구를 통해 도출된 연구결과와 제한점은 추후 연구에 반영될 것이다.

영어초록

This study examined the effects of using welfare services for adolescents (e.g., counseling, after-school programs, art programs, and cultural activities) on the psychosocial adjustment of adolescents from low-income families. For this goal, this study used data from the Korea Welfare Panel Study from the 1st wave through the 4th wave. In addition, this study adopted propensity score weight method to reduce the distortion of the results which might result from the selection bias. The main results are as follows. First, while the result from the multiple regression analysis showed that those who used welfare services were more likely to experience lower levels of psychosocial adjustment, the result from the propensity score weight method showed that there was no significant difference in the levels of psychosocial adjustment between those who used the welfare services and those who did not. Second, depending on the levels of selection bias reduction, there were differences in the gaps of levels of psychosocial adjustment between those who used welfare services and those did not. This result shows that the adjustment using the propensity score weight method made two groups - those who used welfare services and those who did not - equivalent in terms of household head employment status, previous mental health levels of adolescents and others. Third, the research finding suggests that, in addition to counseling service, the use of after-school programs, art programs, and cultural activities has positive effects on the psychosocial adjustment of adolescents. As a preliminary study of the study which will examine the overall effects of using welfare services on all aspects of the development of adolescents from low-income families, the results as well as the limitations found in this study will be reflected in the further study.
