외국인 학부 유학생의 서술식 시험 답안 작성의 문제점 연구 (Study of Problems Found in Written Exam Answers by Non-Korean Students)

초록

This study compares the answers recorded on exams from an elective course by non-Korean undergraduate university students. The findings were analyzed and compared to written exam answers of Korean undergraduate university students. The paper aims to suggest contents to be included in instructing Korean for academic purposes to non-Korean students. To write answers on the exam paper in Korean for non-Korean students is quite challenging as writing is the most difficult skill to learn for them. It is difficult to take an examination in Korean in a limited time without any references, especially without the proper training and awareness of conventional forms in writing answers on exams. Test scores take up a significant portion of student’s academic performance along with presentations, homework assignments and reports. Thus, it is important for them to learn the proper ways of writing answers on exam papers. But instruction on such skills is not being offered, including the textbooks and supplementary materials designed to teach writing for academic purposes. Non-Korean students are not given accurate assessment of their academic performance when they have poor awareness of how to write answers on exams. Based on comparisons, this paper aims to offer contents to be included in properly instructing non-Korean students on writing exams in academic settings.
