보호수 생육환경 분석을 통한 환경개선에 관한 연구 - 화성시 보호수를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Improvement of Environment through the Analysis of Rearing Status of Law-protected Trees - with Focus on Law-protected Trees in Hwasung City -)

초록

본 연구는 화성시 보호수로 지정되어 있는 노거수의 생장실태와 관리상태, 주변 환경 및 이용실태를 조사하여 현황을 종합하였다. 그 연구결과를 토대로 하여 보호수의 관리방안과 보호수의 활용방안을 모색하는데 그 목적이 있다.
화성시의 보호수를 대상으로 문헌조사 및 현지조사를 실시하여 문제점 및 활용방안을 도출하였으며, 그 결론은 다음과 같다.
첫째, 화성시 보호수의 77개소 중 53개소가 생육상태가 양호한 것으로 나타나 대부분의 보호수들이 많은 문제점 없이 잘 자라고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
둘째, 보호수의 시설물 및 포장상태를 분석한 결과를 보면 몇 개의 보호수를 제외한 보호수에 안내판이 설치되어 있었으며, 대부분의 보호수가 자연지반에 생육하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
셋째, 이용현황 분석 결과, 별 다른 이용 없이 기타-경관으로 이용되고 있는 보호수가 많아 이용시설이 거의 없는 것으로 나타났다.
넷째, 보호수의 관리 상태를 살펴본 결과로는 대부분 안내판이 설치되어 있으나 관리 상태는 미흡한 것으로 나타났으며, 80%가 넘는 보호수에 보호철책이 없거나 파손되어 있는 것으로 조사되어 안내판의 관리와 보호책의 설치가 필요한 것으로 분석되었다. 또한, 관리가 제대로 이루어지지 않아 보호수의 식별이 어렵고 접근이 어려우며, 보호수를 조망하는 데에도 문제점이 발견되어 시급한 관리 방안이 세워져야 할 것으로 보인다.
다섯째, 이용 잠재력이 있는 보호수가 있는 공간은 주변 공간을 확보하여 쉼터나 소공원을 조성하여 환경을 개선해야할 것으로 판단된다.
이와 같이 보호수의 주변 환경 개선을 위해서는 전체적으로 정비가 주기적으로 이루어져야 할 것으로 보이며, 주변 환경 개선을 위해서는 생육에 지장을 미치지 않도록 전문가들의 의견과 행정적 지원이 필요하다고 판단되었다.
또한 보호수의 자연 및 인문환경, 문화적 요소를 활용한 다양한 이용 방법을 모색하여 그 지역의 장소성을 높임과 동시에 하나의 문화를 간직한 유산으로서 보존되고 활용될 수 있는 연구는 지속되어야 할 것이다.

영어초록

This study covers research and analysis on the growth and maintenance conditions, surrounding environmental factors and utilization status of old and large trees in Hwasung city designated as law-protected trees. Based on the research results, this study aims to reveal a proper management and utilization scheme for the law-protected trees.
Documentary survey and field work targeting the trees in Hwasung were conducted in order to derive the existing problems and ways of utilization, and the results are as follows.
First, fifty three out of seventy seven law-protected trees in Hwasung city appeared to have moderate rearing conditions and most trees were found to be growing without much problems.
Second, as a result of analysis on the rearing facilities and wrapping conditions of the law-protected trees, all trees except for a few had information board installed, while most of the trees were raised on natural soil.
Third, as a result of analysis on the utilization state, there appeared to be almost no utilization facility as most of the law-protected trees were viewed as extra scenery rather than for special use.
Fourth, regarding the management conditions of the trees, the information boards were poorly inspected despite having been installed for most trees, while over eighty percent of the trees lacked iron fences for protection or had their fences broken, showing an imminent need for care on the information boards and installation of guarding fences. Moreover, the identification of law-protected trees and access to the trees were difficult due to mal-management and problems were also found regarding the outlook of the trees, calling for an urgent management scheme on such aspects.
Fifth, results also showed that for land spaces with law protected trees that have potentials for utilization can have their surrounding environment improved by having small sized public gardens or rest places for people formed by collecting more surrounding space.
In this manner, there appears to be overall needs for constant as well as periodical maintenance for the improvement on the surrounding environment of law-protected trees, while suggestions by specialists and administrative support are also necessary for their improvement to the extent that the changes do not impede proper rearing of the trees.
Moreover, studies on preservation and utilization of the law-protected tree as a form of heritage storing a culture as well as giving accentuation to the place should be continued, through groping for various ways of their utilization both in the aspect of natural and human environment and culture.
