전동휠체어를 위한 유무선 통합 제어기 개발 (Development of Wire-Wireless Integrated Controller for Electric-Powered Wheelchair)

초록

많은 지체장애인들이 전동휠체어를 사용하고 있지만 손의 정밀한 움직임이 불가능한 경우에는 조이스틱을 사용한 휠체어 조작이 다소 힘들 수 있다. 또한 차량을 사용하는 지체장애인의 경우 차량에 탑승한 다음 본인의 전동휠체어를 일정한 장소에 보관 하거나, 차량에 실어 이동하기를 원할 때 누군가의 도움 없이 스스로 해결 하기란 매우 어려운 일이다. 휠체어 조작 미숙한 사용자의 보호자가 전동 휠체어를 대신 조작하여 주는 경우에도 추가비용을 들여 개조를 하거나 또 다른 컨트롤러 구입하여야 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 제약을 가지는 장애인들의 불편을 해소 하고자 조이스틱 사용이 힘든 대상자를 위한 대체 스위치 조작 기능과 안드로이드 기반의 스마트 폰을 이용한 휠체어 무선 조정기능이 포함된 통합형 휠체어 제어기를 개발하였다.
본 연구에서 개발된 시스템을 사용하여 대학생 3명을 대상으로 램프가 포함된 Z형 복도를 10회 주행하며 개발된 인터페이스의 사용가능성을 검증하였다. 실험 결과 스마트 폰을 이용한 주행은 범용 컨트롤러를 이용한 주행보다 조금 느린 속도를 보였으나 보호자나 대상자가 사용하기에 큰 무리가 없었다. 또한 대체 스위치를 이용한 주행은 속도는 느리지만 경로의 이탈 없이 주행함으로서 대체 스위치를 통한 휠체어 조작이 가능함을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 기존의 휠체어 조이스틱의 사용이 어려운 사용자가 대체스위치를 통하여 독립적인 이동이 가능하게 할 것이며, 조이스틱의 사용이 가능한 휠체어 사용자는 무선조정기능으로 인하여 휠체어의 수납과 운반이 용이해 질 것이다.

영어초록

A large number of physically disabled people use motorized wheelchair in order to solve such inconvenience. However, it may be a little difficult for the physically disabled people who cannot precisely move their hands to use general-purpose wheelchair joystick. In addition, when physically disabled people get into an automobile, it is extremely difficult for them to solve problems such as to keep their motorized wheelchair at a certain place or to move loading it in the vehicle without any help of others. Furthermore, even when guardians help motorized wheelchair users to operate the motorized wheelchair instead of them due to the inexperience, it is required to customize by adding costs or to purchase another controller. Therefore, this study has developed the integrated motorized wheelchair controller including the operational function of the alternative switch for the users who have difficulty in using joystick and the wireless control function of motorized wheelchair using Android-based smartphone in order to improve the mobility of physically disabled people who have these restraints.
In this study, 3 university students participated in the experiment that they ran down Z-shaped hallway in electric wheelchairs including lamps 10 times and examined the usability of the developed interface. As experimental results, it shows that the run using smartphone was a little slower than that using the general-purpose controller. However, it was not very difficult for the guardians or user to use it. In addition, the run using the alternative switch was slow, but it stayed on the course without breakaway. Thus, it showed the possibility of controlling the motorized wheelchair by the alternative switch. Thus, using the integrated motorized wheelchair controller created by this study will make it possible for physically disabled people who have difficulties in using the joystick to move the motorized wheelchair by using the alternative switch. The wireless control using smartphone enables the guardians to easily control the motorized wheelchair and the electric wheelchair users to park it wherever they want, or to load it in their automobiles.
