대학상담사의 사회정의 옹호 상담 경험 연구 (A Study on Counselor’s Experience of Social Justice Advocacy Counseling in University)

초록

목적 본 연구는 대학상담센터에서 근무하는 전임 상담사의 사회정의 상담 경험을 통해 대학 상담의 영역에서 수행한 사회정의 상담개입 및 옹호 활동을 심도 있게 이해하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
방법 이를 위해 대학상담센터에서 5년 이상 전임으로 근무한 4명의 상담자를 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 하였으며, Creswell (2013) 의 사례연구방법 절차에 따라 ‘사례 내 분석’과 ‘사례 간 분석’을 실시하였다. 사례 내 분석을 통해 각 사례에서 사회정의 옹호 상담경험이 잘 드러날 수 있는 주제를 확인하였으며, 사례 간 분석에서는 각 사례들의 공통 주제를 도출하고, 사례들을 대표하는 주제들을 범주화하였다.
결과 연구 결과 ACA 사회정의 옹호 모형의 6가지 유형에 근거하여 15개의 공통 주제와 48개의 개별 주제를 도출할 수 있었다.
내담자, 학생 역량 강화를 위해 개인 역량 및 자원 강화, 내담자 체계 내 자원 탐색 및 연결, 학생 프로그램 운영 등의 업무를 수행하고있었으며, 내담자/학생 옹호를 위해 상담자 체계를 활용한 정보 제공, 내담자 지원 체계 구축, 내담자 보호 및 구제 업무를 수행하고있었다. 지역사회 협동을 위해 외부 기관 연계, 학내 프로그램 연계, 지역사회 관계망을 구축하였고, 체계 옹호 차원에서는 제도 개선, 상담 시스템 구축을 위한 다양한 활동을 수행하였다. 공공정보제공을 위해서는 예방 및 인식 개선 교육, 심리상담 특강 등이 이뤄졌으며 사회/정치적 옹호를 위해서는 사회정치적 참여 및 상담자의 자기 옹호 관련 활동이 수행되었다.
결론 본 연구는 대학상담사의 상담 경험을 사회정의 상담의 관점에서 살펴보고 대학상담센터에서 수행되는 옹호 상담에 대한 이해를 촉진하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 주요 결과를 바탕으로 대학상담사의 사회정의 옹호 상담 경험에 대해 논의하였다.

영어초록

Objectives The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of social justice counseling interventions and advocacy work through the experiences of full-time counselors in a college counseling center.
Methods Four counselors who had worked as full-time faculty members for more than five years were inter viewed, with data were analyzed using Creswell's (2013) case study method. In the within-case analysis, themes that highlighted experiences of social justice advocacy in counseling were identified for each case. In the cross-case analysis, representative themes were examined to derive common themes across the cases.
Results A total of 15 common themes and 48 individual themes were identified based on the six types of ACA social justice advocacy model. For client and student empowerment, counselors engaged in personal empower ment, resource building, connecting client with resources within their system, and running student programs. For client/student advocacy, efforts included providing information, building client support systems, and protecting and advocating for clients. For community collaboration, the counselors established networks with external or ganizations, developed on-campus programs, and fostered community relations. Regarding system advocacy, they engaged in activities to improve institutional systems and establish a robust counseling infrastructure. For public information provision, they conducted prevention and awareness education, special lectures on psycho logical counseling, and other outreach activities. Finally, in the domain of social and political advocacy, the counse lors participated in socio-political initiatives and promoted self-advocacy.
Conclusions This study is significant in that it explores the counseling experiences of university counselors through the lens of social justice counseling and enhances understanding of advocacy work conducted in uni versity counseling centers. Based on the findings, the experiences of counselors in social justice advocacy coun seling were discussed in depth.
