현상학적 공간개념을 통한 빛의 오브제적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Objective Characteristics of Light through Phenomenological Concept of Space)

초록

(연구배경 및 목적) 현상학은 의식과 신체를 분리하는 이원론적 전통 철학에 대한 비판에서 비롯하여 지각되는 모든 현상에 대한 근원적 앎을 찾는 것에 목적이 있다. 프랑스 철학자인 메를로-퐁티(Merleau-Ponty)는 인간 중심의 사고에서 신체를 육화된 정신으로 명시하고, 신체와 세계의 상호 교착에 의해 발생되는 현상적 장의 이론을 주창한다. 현상적 장에서 인간과 세계는 유기적인 체계를 이루어 하나의 몸으로 인식된다. 이는 신체 중심의 지각으로 인해 끊임없이 변형된 방식으로 주어지고 인식되어 공간성을 이루는데, 이러한 현상학적 공간개념은 신체의 개입을 통해 공간 경험을 제시하는 현대 공간의 개념과 같은 맥락으로 파악되어 진다. 현대의 공간에서 빛은 진보적 매체의 발달과 더불어 조형적 요소로의 새로운 가능성으로 인해 오브제로의 역할을 가진다. 따라서 본 논문은 오브제화된 빛에 대하여 매개적 요소로서의 가치를 규명하고 이러한 빛을 체험함에 있어 신체지각에 의한 현상학적 해석을 통해 공간과 인간의 관계적 의미에 대하여 파악하는 것에 목적을 둔다. (연구방법) 본 연구는 먼저 메를로-퐁티의 현상학을 통해 현상학적 공간의 개념에 대하여 고찰하고, 오브제와 빛의 의미 확장을 통해 오브제로서의 빛에 대한 가능성을 제시함으로써 오브제적 빛의 정의와 현상적 의미에 관하여 규명하였다. 또한 오브제적 빛과 연계되는 인간의 지각적 근거를 바탕으로 표현특성과 관계특성을 도출하고, 이와 같이 도출된 특성을 근거로 최근 10년간 빛을 소재로 실험 및 연출한 오브제적 빛의 사례에 적용, 분석하였다. (결과) 사례 분석 결과 표현의 특성에 따라 인간과 공간사이의 관계가 각각 상응됨을 알 수 있었다. 신체 중심으로 지각되는 지향성, 공간성, 가변성은 표현 의도에 따라 복합적으로 나타나지만 결과적으로 오브제적 빛의 목적에 의해 주체적, 상황적, 연속적인 인간의 지각방식에 결부되어 나타난다. 이러한 결과로 인해 오브제적 빛은 그 표현의 의도를 인간에게 명확히 전달하고 체험적 가치를 가지는 상징적 매개체로서의 의미를 갖는다고 할 수 있다. (결론) 본 연구는 현상학적 공간개념의 분석을 통해, 오브제적 빛의 표현 특성이 인간과의 관계적 특성에 어떠한 영향을 끼치며 그 의미가 상통하는가에 대하여 증명함으로서 상징적 매개체로서의 이론적 토대를 마련했다. 따라서 현상학적 측면에서의 오브제적 빛은 공간을 구현하며 물질적인 한계를 초월한 현상적 감각 자극을 통해 인간에게 체험적 효과를 제시하고 그로 인해 공간에 개입한 인간은 오브제적 빛이 제공하는 공간의 상황적 지각을 통하여 공간의 새로운 가치를 찾을 수 있다고 판단된다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) Phenomenology aims for fundamental knowledge on every phenomenon perceived and stems from criticism on dualistic traditional philosophy, which separates the consciousness and the body. French philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty proposed the theory of phenomenological base, which clarifies the body from human-oriented thought as the mind that is incarnated and generated from the interaction between the body and the world. From the phenomenological view, humans and the world comprise a single body by forming an organic system. This system forms extensity by given and recognized in style that is continuously changed by body-oriented knowledge, and phenomenological space is understood in the same context as modern space, a concept that suggests space experience with the intervention of the body. Light in modern space plays the role of objet owing to its new potential as a plastic factor as well as the development of progressive media. Therefore, this study aims to clarify the value of objective light as mediation factor, as well as shed light on the relational meaning with phenomenological interpretation of body awareness with respect to humans and space. (Methods) This study contemplated the phenomenological space concept with the phenomenology of Merleau-Ponty, and clarifies the phenomenological significance of the definition of objective light by suggesting the potential of objective light, along with its extension. This study drew on expression and relational characters based on knowledge support of humans connected to objective light. These characters were analyzed after being applied to examples of objective light experienced and expressed with light in the last 10 years based on deduced character. (Results) The study found that the relationship between humans and space corresponded to expressive characters. The directivity, extensity, and variability surrounding the body were revealed to be complex and depending on expression intention. The body is shown to be joined to the autonomous, situational, and continuous manner of perception of humans with respect to the purpose of objective light. Therefore, objective light has significance as symbolic mediation that clearly conveys the intention of expression and contains experiential value. (Conclusions) This study establishes symbolic mediation as theoretical base through analysis of phenomenological space and discussion of how the expression character of objective light influences relational character. The study further proves if the significance is understood. Objective light in the phenomenological view realizes space and affects the human experience through its phenomenological sensory stimulation beyond material limits. As a result, new value of space can be discovered by human intervened the space with situational perception of space provided by objective light.
