추가 속성의 정렬성과 비정렬성의 결합효과 (The Mixed Effect of Add-on Features with Alignability and Non-alignability on Product Evaluations)

초록

추가 속성(add-on feature)은 기본 제품의 기능과 함께 사용될 때만 효용을 제공하며, 기본 제품과는 분리되어 있는 혜택을 말한다(Guiltinam 1987). Bertini et al. (2009)은 추가 속성이 제품의 평가에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구를 하였다. 그들은 추가 속성을 속성의 정렬성을 기준으로 정렬 가능 추가속성과 비정렬 추가속성으로 분류하고, 추가 속성이 가지는 정렬성의 특성에 따라 제품의 평가에 다르게 영향을 미친다는 연구를 하였다. 그러나 실제 현실에서 정렬가능 추가속성과 비정렬추가속성이 동시에 제공될 수 있으며, 이렇게 두 가지가 동시에 제공되는 상황에 대한 연구는 없었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 정렬 가능 추가 속성과 비정렬 추가 속성이 동시에 제공될 때 기본 제품의 평가에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 확인하고, 추가 속성 정렬성의 유형별로 각각 제공되었을 때 기존에 연구된 바와 같은 결과가 나오는지 검증하였다. 실험 결과, 제품에 대한 지식을 가진 소비자의 경우에는, 추가 속성을 제공받지 않았을 때 보다 정렬 가능 추가 속성을 제공받았을 때 제품을 낮게 평가하였으며, 비정렬 속성을 제공받은 경우에는 더 높게 평가하였다. 또한 정렬 가능 추가 속성과 비정렬 추가 속성을 동시에 제공받은 경우에 제품에 대한 평가가 가장 높게 나타났다. 제품에 대한 지식이 낮은 소비자의 경우에는, 추가 속성을 제공받지 않았을 때, 추가 속성을 정렬성의 유형에 따라 각각 제공받았을 때와 동시에 제공받았을 때 보다 제품을 높게 평가하였다.

영어초록

Add-on features are discretionary benefits that provide utility to the consumers only if consumed with the corresponding base good(Guiltinam 1987). From the company's perspective, the add-on features are used as the means of price discrimination or setting a high price since the consumers do not perceive the future needs of them. From the consumer's perspective, they can have more options through the add-on feature.
Bertini et al. (2009) studied the impact of add-on feature on the evaluation of the product. They classified the add-on features into the alignable and the nonalignable based on the alignability of the features, and found that different alignability have different impacts on the evaluation of the product.
However, there has been no study on the case when both two types of alignability of the add-on features are provided at the same time even though they are usually provided simultaneously in the real market. Therefore, this study is aimed to identify how the simultaneous provision of both alignable and nonalignable add-on features affects the evaluation of basic product and to verify whether the separate provision of each alignability type produces the same results as the previous studies. To test hypothesis, 4 * 2 experimental design was used. The results from the experiment in this study showed that the consumers with the knowledge of the product evaluated the product lower when they were provided with the alignable add-on feature than they were not provided with the add-on features. They evaluated the product higher when they were provided with the nonalignable features. In addition, the evaluation of the product was highest when both types of add-on features were provided simultaneously. The consumers with low level of knowledge of the product evaluated the product higher when they were not provided with the add-on feature than they were provided with each type separately or both type simultaneously. This study findings differ from those of previous studies, which implies the need for future study on the information process of the consumers.
