초록

코로나가 발발한 지 1년여 지났지만, 여전히 우리는 코로나의 팬데믹 속에서 살고 있다. 이러한 팬데믹은 사회 곳곳에 심각한 영향을 주고 있으며, 전시산업도 그 영향에서 벗어나지 못하고 있다. 특히 사람 간의 만남을 필수적인 속성으로 하는 전시산업의 특성상 감염병 확산의 우려로 전시회의 개최는 더욱 기피되고 있다. 이러한 가운데 아시아 전시산업을 선도하는 중국은 코로나 최초 발생 국가임에도 불구하고 오프라인과 온라인 등의 다양한 형태로 전시회를 개최하며 위기상황을 슬기롭게 대처하고 있다.
따라서 본 연구는 이러한 팬데믹 상황을 대처하는 중국의 대응과 변화 양상을 통해 한국의 전시산업에 제공해 줄 수 있는 시사점을 파악하고자 하였다. 연구 결과 중국 전시산업 변화의 중심에는 디지털 혁신이 존재함을 확인하였고, 중국 전시산업 디지털 전환의 핵심은 ‘전시회와 디지털 기술의 접목’으로 표현할 수 있다. 즉, 전시회 개최 형태와는 상관없이 무역 전시회의 본질을 달성하기 위한 디지털 기술의 활용에 초점이 맞추어져 있다. 이러한 중국 전시산업 디지털 전환의 대표적인 활용 사례로 ‘클라우드 페어’와 ‘라이브 커머스’를 들 수 있다.
이처럼 전시산업의 디지털 전환은 단순한 전시회의 온라인 개최가 아니라, 온·오프라인의 융합을 통해 기존 전시회의 한계와 단점을 보완하고, 거래 촉진을 위한 플랫폼으로 역할 수행을 의미한다. 이러한 디지털 기술과 전시회와의 융합을 위해서는 디지털 플랫폼 사업자와의 협업 또한 필수적으로 동반되어야 한다. 따라서 팬데믹 시대, 지속적인 전시산업의 발전을 위해서는 판매자와 구매자 간의 거래를 활성화하는 다양한 디지털 기술의 활용이 필요하며, 이것이 진정한 의미의 전시산업 디지털 전환임을 명심해야 할 것이다.

영어초록

It has been over a year since the outbreak of COVID-19, but we are still living in the ‘Corona Pandemic’. This pandemic has had a severe impact on all parts of society and the trade show industry has not been immune from it. In particular, as the trade show industry relies on people meeting, concerns over the spread of infectious diseases are making people avoid trade shows. Against this backdrop, China, which leads the Asian trade show industry, is wisely coping with this crisis despite being the first country to have the coronavirus by holding trade shows in various offline and online forms.
Therefore, this study tried to understand the implications of the Korean trade show industry through China’s response to and change in dealing with such a pandemic. As a result of this study, it was confirmed that digital innovation exists at the center of the changes to China's trade show industry, and the key to the digital transformation of China’s trade show industry can be expressed as ‘the combination of exhibition and digital technology’. In other words, regardless of the form of the trade show, the focus is on the use of digital technology to achieve the essence of the trade show. ‘Cloud Fair’ and ‘Live Commerce’ are representative examples of the digital transformation of China’s trade show industry.
The digital transformation of the trade show industry does not mean simply holding trade shows online. Instead, it means that digital technology plays a significant role as a platform for facilitating transactions and complementing the limitations and shortcomings of the existing trade shows through the convergence of online and offline characteristics. Collaboration with digital platform operators is also essential for the convergence of these digital technologies and trade shows. Thus, for the continuous development of the trade show industry in the pandemic era, it is necessary to utilize various digital technologies that activate transactions between sellers and buyers. It should be kept in mind that this is the true meaning of the digital transformation of the trade show industry.
