신의 착용문화와 복식미적 고찰－상징성을 중심으로－ (A study on ambulatory culture of shoes and aesthetic sense of costumes －considering on symbolic sense－)

초록

이 연구는 복식의 한 부분인 신을 주제로 한국 신의 기원과 신의 종류, 형태를 파악하고 시대별 변천을 거쳐 그 착용문화를 복식미적 관점에서 이해하고 신이 가지는 상징성을 연구하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 통해 신의 구조가 선조들의 착용과 보행문화에 어떠한 영향을 미치고 복식미를 완성시켰는지 고찰하였으며 신에 내포된 인식을 어떻게 상징적으로 표현하였는지를 이해하는데 계기가 될 것으로 기대한다. 신은 신는 목적으로서 뿐만 아니라 그 기능을 넘어선 복식의 완성에 마침표를 찍는 미적 표현이다.
우리나라의 신은 북방의 기마유목 문화권인 靴와 남방의 농경문화권의 鞋․履가 공존하였다. 고구려 고분벽화와 여러 문헌을 통해 신목이 길고 짧은 형태가 함께 착용된 것을 알 수 있다.
현재 우리가 부르는 단어인 ‘신’의 어원은 화를 ‘洗’이라 한 기록에서 “신”의 表音으로 시작된 것이다.
이후 신은 삼국시대부터 고려시대와 조선시대를 거쳐 다양한 재료와 형태로 제작되고 갖가지 명칭으로 착용되었다. 우리의 신은 다양한 재료와 낮은 울이 구조의 특징이다. 낮은 울에서 시작하여 뒤축으로 올라가는 날렵한 곡선미의 신은 착용하면 팔자로 걸어야만 벗겨지지 않게 되어 있어, 자연스럽게 독특한 보행문화로 이어졌다. 착용의 문화를 보면, 왼발․오른발의 짝이 정해져 있지 않기 때문에 구속되질 않고 발집으로 인해 좌우를 만드는 여유가 있다. 여기에 골고루 해어뜨리고자 바꿔 신으면 오래 신기까지 했을 실용성도 갖추었다. 또한 신분을 나타내고 미적 감각을 만족 시키는 복식미의 또 다른 기능도 충족시키며 발전되어 왔다. 신에 나타나는 원색의 조화는 오늘날 선명하고 강렬한 색채의 한국적인 색조를 만들어 냈다.
신을 통한 희생의 상징성은 16세기 만들어진 미투리 한 켤레가 애절한 편지와 함께 발굴되면서 확인되었다. 병든 남편의 쾌유를 빌기 위해 자신의 머리카락과 삼줄기로 삼은 미투리는 신의 염력을 통한 부인의 사랑의 상징을 보여준다.
조선시대가 되면서 더욱 화려한 신은 비활동적이며 ‘타고 다니는 것이지, 걸어 다니는 신이 아닌 것’으로 생각될 만큼 땅에 딛는 발에 신는 신이면서도 유난히 아름다운 복식미로 표현되었고 바깥 세상에 대한 동경과 경험하지 못한 미지의 세상을 상상케 하는 자유로 인식되었다.
연구를 통해 과거의 신이 가지고 있는 여러 가지의 의미의 복식문화가 현재의 전통신으로 올바르게 전달되고 계승되었는지 되돌아 봐야 할 것이다.

영어초록

This study aims to find the origin of Korean shoes, the kinds of shoes and the form from the main subject on shoes that is the part of dress and its ornament, to understand its wearing culture on the view of dress and its ornament aesthetically through transition era, and to study the symbolic what shoes has.

With this thesis, considered which the structure of shoes had influenced on wearing and ambulatory culture of an ancestor and expect to be a opportunity to understand how it could express symbolically recognition involved by shoes. Shoes is not only wearing but also aesthetically expression to put a period to complete dress and its ornament beyond the function.

The shoes of Korean coexisted both ‘Hwa(like boots)(靴)(it had a long neck and was easy to protect against the cold and humidity, noble people used) in nomadic horse culture of the north and' Hye(鞋)․Yi(履)(like normal shoes)(it had a short neck, the common people used) in farming culture of the south. It represented that they wore together the both of shoes that has a long neck of shoes and a short neck through the Mural Painting of the Goguryeo Ancient Tombs and various literatures.
Etymology of the word 'Sin' what we call originated from phonetic representation of 'Sin' that the boots(靴) was recorded with 'Sun'(洗.)

After, shoes was made with various materials and forms over from Three Kingdoms of Korea, the Koryo Dynasty and the Joseon Dynasty and worn with various names.

Shoes of Korean had nature of the structure that was various materials and a low hedge. The shoes had a keen well－shaped that goes up from a low hedge to the heel, it couldn't be took off if one had to walk turning one's toes out when wearing, so then it was connected with particular ambulatory culture naturally.

In the view of wearing culture, it was not bound because it is not been set with left and right, and had some space to make left and right with foot pocket. Furthermore, it had practicality to use for longtime when one wore away equally wore to change.

Also, it has been developing to show a social position, to meet the other function of aesthetic sense. Combination of colors on shoes has made strong and clear Korean style tone in this present.

It was found the symbolic of sacrifice on shoes while a pair of shoes was excavated with an appeal letter that was made in 16th century. Hemp shoes that were made with her hair and hemp stalk showed a symbol of a wife's love through psychokinesis of shoes.

The shoes that became brilliant in the Joseon Dynasty presented exceptionally beautiful dress and its ornament aesthetic though was a shoes for feet which used for walking on the earth enough to think that was inactivity not for walking but for getting on, and was recognized to imagine unknown world as liberty.

With the result of this study, I think that it needs to consider looking back whether wearing culture of which the shoes of the past had different meanings has been passed rightly and been acceded to traditional shoes in this present.
