마직물(麻織物)을 이용한 도자 표면 장식에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Ceramic Surface Decoration Using Hemp Fabrics)

초록

현대사회는 빠르게 변화하고 있고 다양한 분야에서 단편적인 가치보다는 통합적 가치 중시 등 새로운 방향에서 다양한 재료들에 융합을 모색하고 있다. 도자예술에서 타 소재의 활용은 최근 부분적으로시도되고 있으나, 직접 활용의 사례는 많지 않다. 따라서, 섬유 소재 중 마직물이란 범위를 설정하고직접 활용 실험을 진행하여 도예 작업에 적용함으로써, 서로 다른 재료와의 접합과 도자 표면 장식에대한 새로운 가능성을 증명하여 제시하였다.
실험은 다양한 활용을 위해 시편 소지와 같은 백색자기토 슬립과 화장토로 각각 나누어 진행하였고마직물과 흙의 밀착 정도를 파악하기 위해 붓을 이용하여 1회에서 9회까지 바르는 횟수별로 나누어 진행하였다.
실험 결과, 화장토를 사용한 시편보다는 시편과 같은 소지인 백색자기토 슬립을 사용한 시편의 결과에서 보다 안정적인 결과가 관찰되었다. 또한 모시와 리넨에 비해 조직의 짜임이 성근 삼베가 직접 활용에 좋다는 결과를 도출할 수 있었는데, 붓칠 횟수에서 4회와 5회 바른 실험이 시편과 분리되지 않고도자 표면에 안정적으로 밀착되는 최적의 접합도가 나타났다.
실험 결과를 바탕으로 실제 작업에 적용함으로써 본 실험 결과의 활용 가능성과 입체 작업에서 같은 질감 표현이 가능한지 증명하여 제시하고자 하였다. 적용은 시편 분석을 통해 최적의 적합도를 보인 백색자기토 슬립, 붓칠 4~5회를 표준 데이터로 설정한 후 사각 접시 형태의 기물을 만들어 부분적인 질감 표현으로 적용하였다. 적용 결과, 실험 과정에서 보였던 결과의 모습과 같이 삼베의 질감이잘 드러났고 안정적인 질감 표현이 가능하였다.
마직물의 직접 활용을 모색한 본 연구는 삼베 소재가 지닌 질감을 도예 작업에 표현 가능함을 밝힌점, 붓칠 횟수에 따라 최적의 적합도를 밝혀 제시한 점, 실험결과의 적용을 통해 도자 표현의 가능성을 모색하여 제시한 점 등이 성과이다.

영어초록

In the rapidly changing society at present, there is an increasing emphasis on integrated values over fragmented ones across various field. In addition, there are trials to explore the fusion of various kinds of materials from new perspectives. Although the use of different materials in ceramic art has been partially attempted recently, there are not many cases of direct application. Therefore, this study verified and presented new possibilities for the combination of different materials and ceramic surface decoration by focusing on hemp fabrics as a type of fiber materials, conducting experiments on direct application, and applying it to ceramic work.
For various applications, experiments were conducted with the uses of white porcelain clay slip similar to the specimens and of engobe. To assess the degree of adhesion between the hemp fabrics and clay, different numbers of brush strokes, ranging from one to nine, were applied.
According to the experiments, white porcelain clay slip similar to the specimens yielded more stable results than engobe. Furthermore, it was found that loosely woven hemp fabric was more suitable for direct application than ramie and linen. At four to five brush layers, it was observed that there was the optimal adhesion without separation from specimens and with a stable bond to the ceramic surface.
Based on the experimental results, practical application was conducted to prove and present the applicability of the experimental results and the possibility of the same texture expression in three-dimensional work. For application, white porcelain clay slip and four to five brush strokes, which brought about the optimal adhesion in the specimen analysis, were set as standard data, and then a square-shaped object was created to apply partial texture expression. As a result, the texture of hemp fabrics was well-expressed and could be stably represented on the ceramic surface, consistent with the experimental outcomes.
This study on the direct application of hemp fabrics is meaningful in the points that it suggests the direct applicability of the texture of the fiber material to ceramic work, that it identifies the optimal number of brush strokes for the best adhesion, and that it presents new possibilities for ceramic expression through direct application.
