18~20세기초 中國 靈芝草花文 靑畵白磁의 유행과 전파 (The Popularity and Transmission of Chinese Blue-and-White Porcelains with Lingzhi-Floral Design during 18th to early 20th Century)

초록

靈芝草花文 靑畵白磁는 기면에 청화안료로 공간을 일정하게 구획하고, 그 안에 도안화된 영지와 초화문양을 번갈아 장식한 것이다. 명대 선덕연간 관요양식에 기원을 두고 있지만, 청대 이후 景德鎭 민간에본격적으로 등장하여 근대기까지 福建, 湖北 일대 등 남방민요에서 독자적인 특징을 나타내며 전개되었다. 따라서 영지초화문 청화백자는 관요와 민요, 경덕진과 기타 지방 민요와의 관계를 고찰해 볼 수 있는중요한 주제임에도 불구하고, 민간용 도자라는 특성 때문에 연구 대상으로써 주목받지 못하였다. 또 한국과 일본의 소비유적에서 빈번히 출토가 보고되나 정확한 계통과 전파과정에 대한 이해가 부족한 실정이었다. 이에 본 논문은 전세품을 비롯해 새롭게 확인된 기록과 발굴 자료를 면밀히 검토함으로써, 영지초화문 청화백자의 연원과 제작배경을 비롯해 지역별 조형 특징 및 지역 간에 각기 다르게 전개되는 양상과그 성격을 구체적으로 고찰하고자 하였다.
영지초화문 청화백자의 연원은 경덕진 어기창유적 선덕연간 층위 출토품으로 밝혀진 바 있다. 그런데 청궁이 소장한 골동 목록에서도 이와 동일한 계통의 기물이 확인되어, 청 황실이 명대 관요품을 지속적으로 소장하면서, 모방품을 제작한 사실을 확인하였다. 한편 관요양식에 기원을 두는 영지초화문 청화백자가 민간에서 대유행에 이르게 된 것은 관탑민소와 관요 낙선품을 민간에 판매 처리하는 방식이 실행되며 가능하게 된 것으로 추정된다. 청대 중기에 이르면 경덕진 민요 뿐 아니라 복건 일대 민요에서도 활발히 생산되었는데, 경덕진 자기가 전국으로 유통된 동시에 장인들이 남방으로 이주하여 남방 일대 민요에서도 경덕진양식의 도자기가 생산된 것으로 생각된다.
한국과 일본에서 발견되는 중국산 영지초화문 청화백자는 대부분 18세기 중반 이후 제작된 경덕진민요산이 두드러졌으며, 각 지역에서 모방 생산이 이루어졌으나 제작주체 및 소비계층이 달라지면서 각기다른 성격을 지니게 되었다. 조선의 경우 왕실내지 관청과 연관되는 장소에서 중국산의 소비가 빈번했던것으로 보이며, 조선산 영지초화문 청화백자는 관요인 분원리요를 중심으로 생산되며 가장 고급의 소비문화를 가지고 있었던 한양에서 폭넓게 소비된 것으로 보인다. 일본에서는 18세기 중후반 이래 肥前 일대요장을 시작으로 瀨戶, 美濃 요장에서 민간용 일상기명으로 생산되었으며, 한국 소비유적에서도 근대식기법으로 제작된 일본산이 발견되었다.
영지초화문 청화백자는 명대 선덕 관요양식에서부터 일본에서 근대식기법으로 제작되기까지 500여 년간 지속되며 각 지역에서 각기 다른 성격으로 생산, 소비된 사실을 밝힐 수 있다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾고자 한다.

영어초록

Blue-and-white porcelain ware with the lingzhi and floral motif is characterized bydecoration of the surface with a succession of stylized lingzhi and floral motifs painted incobalt blue. The origin of ceramic works of this type dates back to the early 15th century, whensuch works were produced in the kilns operated by the imperial court of the Ming Dynasty,although they poured into the markets of Jingdezhen in Jiangxi Province, China duringthe Qing Dynasty and continued to be produced in the kilns of Fujian and Hubei provincesacross South China until the modern period. Blue-and-white porcelain with the lingzhi andfloral motif is an important subject with regard to the relationship between official kilns andcivilian kilns, and between civilian kilns in Jingdezhen and kilns in other areas, but it haslong failed to attract the attention of researchers - probably because it was usually producedfor use in ordinary households. Such ceramic works have been found at various Koreanand Japanese archaeological sites, too, but there was a lack of knowledge about the date andlocation of their production and the means by which they were transported to these sites. It isin this context that this study aims to present a detailed discussion about the specific aspectsand characteristic features of blue-and-white porcelain ware with the lingzhi and floral motifbased on a close examination of the records, excavations, and relics that have recently beendiscovered or studied.
The origin of this particular porcelain ware was revealed in connection with thediscoveries made in a layer of the Jingdezhen imperial porcelain kiln, which was established when China was under the rule of the Xuande Emperor (1399-1435). However, historianshave discovered the name of a similar porcelain object in the list of antique collectionskept by the Qing Dynasty, and now believe that the Qing imperial court made copies ofthe masterpieces produced at the kilns operated by the Ming Dynasty. Meanwhile, blueand-white porcelain ware originating from the Ming imperial workshops came to enjoygreat popularity among commoners after the introduction of the system whereby imperialporcelain production was contracted out to civilian kiln operators and the practice ofselling defective goods out to civilian markets. It is now widely held that the circulation ofJingdezhen products outside the capital during the mid-Qing period led to the production ofblue-and-white porcelain wares at the civilian kilns in Fujian and, as potters migrated, to thegradual establishment of more civilian kilns across the southern areas.
The Chinese blue-and-white porcelain wares with the lingzhi and floral motifdiscovered in Korea and Japan were largely produced at the civilian kilns in Jingdezhenafter the mid-18th century. Such products were actively copied in many places around thetwo countries, but the changes in production and consumption patterns resulted in widelydifferent characteristics. In Korea, for instance, Chinese products were usually consumedby the royal households and government agencies, whereas Korean products from theBunwon-ri official kilns were circulated more widely among wealthy consumers in thecapital. In Japan, however, similar porcelain wares were produced at the kilns in Hizen,Seto and Mino during or after the mid-18th century for consumption by ordinary people.
Some of the more modern versions of these Japanese products have been discovered at anumber of archaeological sites in Korea. Having originated at the imperial kilns of the MingDynasty under the Xuande Emperor, blue-and-white porcelain with the lingzhi and floralmotif continued to prosper for about 500 years until the emergence of its modern versionfrom the kilns in Japan, leading to a great diversity in terms of their characteristics and theirproduction and consumption patterns.
