도심 역사경관 지구의 경관색채 연속성평가- 광화문 세종로를 대상으로 - (A Study on a Color Sequence of a Historical Landscape Area - Focused on Sejongno in Gwangwhamun -)

초록

전국적으로 확산되고 있는 지역만의 개성적인 경관형성을 위한 다양한 시도는 2000년대 초반의 획일적인 정비를 넘어, 지역에 뿌리를 둔 건축물과 시설물, 광고물 등에 대한 체계적이고 지속가능한 시도로 이어지고 있다. 또한 역사문화환경을 기반으로 한 색채정비는 그 중요성이 갈수록 커지고 있다. 그럼에도 아직도 많은 역사문화공간의 환경색채의 정비는 상징적 역사자원과의 관계성보다 개별적인 건축물과 가로의 상징성에 주목하는 경우가 많아 이에 대한 구체적인 개선방안 정립이 시급하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 국내의 대표적 역사문화 공간인 광화문 세종로를 대상으로 광화문과 주변 건축물과의 색채 관계성 파악, 현황 문제점 검토를 통해 역사문화 경관을 고려한 색채의 개선방안을 도출하고자 한다. 연구방법은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기존연구 및 문헌고찰을 통해 역사문화자원의 환경색채 정비 및 계획방향의 정립한다. 둘째, 관찰조사와 육안비색을 통한 광화문 앞 세종로의 건축물과 시설물의 환경색채 현황에 대한 객관적 조사 및 분석한다. 셋째, 역사적 상징물의 색채와 주변 건축물과의 색채비교를 통해 관계성과 연속성을 파악하고 개선방향을 제안한다.
연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 역사적 경관자원의 색채 정체성이 가지는 상징적인 역할이 정리되었고, 그 특성으로서 소재를 중심으로 한 풍토성과 역사적 상징자원과 주변공간과의 관계성, 물리적 색채 및 문화적 상징성과 같은 문화요소의 중요성이 정리되었다. 둘째, 광화문 주변 세종로에 위치한 건축물과 시설물의 색채는 상호 연속성이 부족하며, 광화문과의 소재와 색채 관계성이 높지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 특히 건축물 색상의 다양성과 광고물의 고채도 색채는 시각적 안정감을 저해하는 요소로 나타났다. 색상에서도 R에서부터 PB까지 다양한 경향을 보였으며 명도와 채도의 폭도 커 광화문의 Y색상과의 관계성이 다소 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 주변 건축물과 시설물, 광고물을 역사적 상징과의 시각적 연속성을 고려한 색채의 적용과 함께, 간판과 시설물 색채의 채도를 중심으로 한 체계적인 관리가 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구가 국내 역사공간에 대한 환경색채 정비에 시사점을 제공할 수 있기를 기대한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this research is to examine the current problem of Gwanghwamun Sejongno, which is Korea’s representative historic and cultural space with regard to the relationship of color between Gwanghwamun and the surrounding buildings and to derive the improvement plan of environmental color. The research methods are as follows. First, the environmental color direction is organized through the existing researches and literature review on the organization of environmental color of historic cultural resources. Second, the objective investigation and analysis on the current conditions of environmental color of the buildings and facilities on Sejongno in front of Gwanghwamun are conducted. Third, the color of historic landmarks and the color of surrounding buildings are compared and their relationships and continuity are identified and the improvement plans are proposed.
The results derived from this research were as follows. First, the symbolic role of historic landscape resources was established. As its characteristics, endemicity based on materials, the relationship between historical symbolic resources and the surrounding space, physical color, and cultural symbolism were organized. Second, on-site investigation indicated that the color of the buildings and facilities located in Sejongno around Gwanghwamun lacked mutual continuity, and the relationships between Gwnaghwamun and the materials and color were not high. Particularly, the diversity of color of the buildings and high chroma of advertisements found to be a factor that hindered visual stability. The colors also showed a tendency of diversity ranging from R to PB, and the range of brightness and chroma was wide, so their relationships with Gwanghwamun were somewhat low. So color improvement in consideration of visual continuity between surrounding buildings and facilities, advertisements and historic landmarks was needed. And systematic management focusing on the chroma of color of signboards and facilities was required. It is expected that this research can provide important implications for organization of environmental color of the country’s historic space.
