금강유역 한성기 백제 횡혈식석실묘의 축조환경 (Building circumstances of Baekje Stone-Chamber Tombs in Geum-River Basin during the Hanseong Period)

초록

최근 한성기 백제영역에서 발굴조사된 횡혈식석실묘의 존재는 많은 논쟁이 있어 왔음에도 불구하고, 백제의 중앙과 지방의 관계를 검토할 수 있는 중요한 자료라는 인식에는 의견을 함께한다. 본고에서는 금강유역에서 조사된 한성기 백제 횡혈식석실묘를 중심으로 고분의 축조환경을 살펴 지방사회의 모습을 구체화 해보고자 하였다.
한성기 백제 중앙에서 확인되는 횡혈식석실묘는 방형에 불규칙한 연도를 갖춘 횡혈식석실묘와 방형 ·장방형의 평면에 우편재 연도를 갖춘 형식의 횡혈식석실묘가 모두 확인되지만, 구조의 불규칙성으로 인하여 묘제의 형식을 기준으로 분류하기에는 어려움이 있다. 그러나 금강유역에서 조사된 한성기 백제 횡혈식석실묘의 존재상을 3유형으로 구분할 수 있으므로, 이를 기초로하여 금강유역 백제 지방사회의 특성을 살펴보았다.
①유형은 재지묘제의 전통에 기초하여 횡혈식석실묘를 모방축조한 집단으로, 횡혈식석실묘는 불규칙하고 다양한 평면구조를 갖춘다. ②유형은 재지묘제를 조영한 집단 내에서 중앙문화의 유입과 더불어 새로운 묘제로 횡혈식석실묘가 조영된 집단으로, 비교적 정형화된 구조를 갖춘 형태로 확인된다. ③유형은 기존의 묘제환경과는 전혀 다른 지역에 새로운 묘역을 조영한 집단으로, 정형화된 횡혈식석실묘의 구조를 갖춘 형태로 확인된다. 웅진천도 직후에 조영된 것으로 판단되는 공주 송산리고분군과 금학동고분군도 ③유형에 포함하여 살펴볼 수 있는데, 이들 고분군에서는 한성에서 조성되었던 방형의 궁륭상 천장유형과 장방형의 아치식(변형 궁륭상 천장) 천장유형의 횡혈식석실묘가 모두 확인되고 있다.
결국 금강유역 한성기 횡혈식석실묘의 축조환경은 고분의 조영에 있어서 재지사회의 주도적인 입장에서 기존 묘제에 융합된 형태로 나타나는 모습과, 중앙과의 관계 속에서 새로이 정형화된 횡혈식석실묘가 유입되는 모습으로 구분할 수 있다. 이는 한성기 금강유역에서는 재지사회의 전통적 기반에 기초하면서 백제의 지배체제 속에 편입된 지역집단과 기존 재지세력의 중심영역에서 벗어나 새로이 등장한 집단이 존재하고 있었음을 살필 수 있는 자료이다. 그리고 웅진도성에 인접해 있는 유적은 주로 웅진천도 이후에까지도 지속적으로 횡혈식석실묘가 조영되는 모습을 보이는데, 이들은 기존 재지세력과는 차별화되게 새로이 등장한 집단이거나 백제 중앙에서 이주한 집단의 존재를 추정할 수 있는 자료이기도 하다. 따라서 한성기와 웅진기 백제 중앙의 횡혈식석실묘 조영 전통이 일치함을 알 수 있다.

영어초록

Though the existence of stone-chamber tombs excavated recently in Baekje territory during the Hanseong Period has brought many controversies, there is no disagreement that they are important sources for reviewing relation between the central region and local districts. This article tries to give shape to Baekje local society by reviewing building circumstances of the tombs focusing the stone-chamber tombs researched in Geum-River basin.
For the stone-chamber tombs identified in the central part of Baekje during the Hanseong Period, there are two types: square type with irregular corridor and square or rectangle type with right-sided long corridor. But irregularity of their structures caused difficulty in categorizing types by tomb system. However, Baekje stone-chamber tombs in Geum-River basin during the Hanseong Period can be classified into 3 types and I review characteristics of Baekje local society based on them.
For the first type, they were a group which was copied after the stone-chamber tombs based on traditions of local tomb system and has irregular and various plane structures. The second type contains stone-chamber tombs which was constructed as new tomb system with influx of central culture into the existing local tomb system and they have relatively regular structures. The third type is new tombs in totally different tomb system region and has standardized structure of the stone-chamber tomb. Tombs in Songsanri and Geumhakdong, Gongju which were though to be constructed just after the transfer of the capital to Ungjin can be included in the third type and both square vaulted ceiling type and rectangular arch-type(variation of vaulted ceiling) of stone-chamber tombs constructed in the Hanseong were identified.
After all, for building circumstances of the stone-chamber tombs in Geum-River basin in the Hanseong Period, they can be divided into two types: integration to the existing tomb system actively by local society and influx of newly standardized tomb in relation with the central body. It shows there were two groups in Geum-River basin during the Hanseong period: the group which was incorporated into Baekje system even though it was still based on traditional backgrounds of the local society and the one who newly appeared escaping from central part of the conventional local society. And vestiges adjacent in the capital of Ungjin show continuous construction of stone-chamber tombs after transfer of the capital to Ungjin and they are sources to provide assumption on existence of new group who were different from the existing local group or group who moved from the central region of Baekje. So we can conclude that the building tradition of stone-chamber tombs in central region of Baekje during both of the Hanseong and Ungjin Periods are coincident.
