초록

Agricultural products are experiencing a variety of distribution environments from harvest to consumption and are subject to damage, small or large. Factors causing damage to agricultural products can be classified largely into two groups: environmental factors such as temperature and humidity, and mechanical factors such as impact and vibration. Damages due to impact are mainly caused by careless handling, while most damages due to vibration are through vehicle under transportation. This study is to investigate distribution environments and practices of grapes produced in Youngcheon region, and to develop some engineering issues for improvement in distribution systems of agricultural products. We focus on packaging systems, in particular.
A case study has been done on distribution environments of grape products produced in Youngcheon region. In 2006, Youngcheon shares 11.7% (38,000 tons) out of the gross production volume of the grape in Korea. Furthermore, the grape is the most economic crops in Youngcheon region, amounting to 21.4% of the total agricultural income. Through the case study, we develop the following engineering issues: establishing standards and quality criteria on double-wall cotrugated fiberboard boxes with B and E flutes, developing flatbed diecutter with digital printing function, developing packaging systems for facilitating the door-to-door delivery, and developing packaging systems for preventing quality degradation of agricultural products under transportation.
