김광균 시의 멜랑콜리, 숭고, 몽타주 연구 (A Study of Melancholy, Sublimity, Montage in Kim Gwang-Gyoon’s Poetry)

초록

이 연구는 1930년대에서 1990년대에 이르는 한국 현대시의 유형학을 새롭게 탐구하고 더 나아가 현대시사의 계보를 재구성하려는 장기적인 연구 기획의 일환으로서, 한국 현대시의 주제, 미학, 양식, 기법 등을 상호 침투적으로 연구하기 위해 주제적 범주에서 ‘모티프’, 미학적 범주에서 ‘미/숭고’, 양식적 범주에서 ‘상징/알레고리’, 기법적 범주에서 ‘몽타주’ 등을 분석소로 설정하고 그 하위범주들 간의 상관성을 탐색하는 융합적 방법론을 채택했다. 각 분석소의 하위범주로는 주제적 범주에서 ‘핵심 모티프’를 중심으로 ‘애도/멜랑콜리/쾌락 원칙/죽음충동/트라우마/음악/회화/문명/정신/이데올로기/윤리/정치’ 등을 설정하고, 미학적 범주에서 ‘미/숭고’를 설정하며, 양식적 범주에서 ‘상징/알레고리’를 설정하고, 기법적 범주에서 ‘핵심 몽타주’를 중심으로 ‘연결 몽타주/충돌 몽타주/견인 몽타주/운율적 몽타주/리듬적 몽타주/조성적 몽타주/배음적 몽타주/수직적 몽타주/지적 몽타주’ 등을 설정했다. 이 글에서는 이러한 방법론을 토대로 1930년대 김광균의 시를 대상으로 텍스트 분석을 시도했다.
김광균의 시에는 ‘감응－이미지’의 상관 항으로서 크게 ‘대낮’의 시간성과 결부되는 ‘건조한 감응－조형성의 이미지’ 조합, ‘저녁’의 시간성과 결부되는 ‘멜랑콜리의 감응－불투명성의 이미지’ 조합이 차별적으로 등장한다. 김광균 시에서 내적 시간성의 전개로서 ‘감응－이미지’의 상관 항들 중에서 먼저 시도된 ‘건조한 감응－조형성의 이미지’ 조합은 시인의 내면적 동요를 통해 무너지고 ‘멜랑콜리의 감응－불투명성의 이미지’ 조합이 더 큰 비중을 차지하게 된다. 이 조합의 형상화로 무게중심이 기울면서 ‘대낮’의 시간대와 결부된 ‘조형성’의 형태적 이미지는 약화되고 ‘저녁’의 시간대와 결부된 ‘황혼’, ‘등불－안개’ 등의 형태가 모호하고 불투명한 색채적 이미지로 전이된다. 이 글은 ‘감응－이미지’의 상관성에 초점을 맞추고 김광균 시의 내재적 분석을 통해 ‘멜랑콜리의 감응’이 미학적 범주에서 ‘숭고의 부정적 묘사’와 결부되고 기법적 범주에서 ‘수직적 몽타주’와 결부되는 양상을 심층적으로 고찰했다. 김광균의 시에서 ‘건조한 감응－조형성의 이미지’가 ‘멜랑콜리의 감응－불투명성의 이미지’로 이동하는 양상과 관련되는 구조화 원리는 ‘미학적 범주’와 ‘기법적 범주’에서 다음과 같은 두 가지 원리로 정리될 수 있다. 첫째, ‘미학적 범주’에서 김광균의 시적 형식으로서 ‘조형성의 이미지’가 무너지고 ‘불투명성의 이미지’가 등장하면서 ‘경계가 지워지며 모호해지는 부분’은 ‘숭고의 부정적 묘사’와 연관된다. 김광균 시에서 이 부분은 ‘실재의 부정적 묘사’라고 부를 만한 성격을 가진다. 둘째, ‘기법적 범주’에서 김광균의 시적 형식으로서 ‘불투명성의 이미지’ 및 ‘색채 이미지’의 연쇄적 제시는 시각적ㆍ극적ㆍ청각적 요소 같은 다양한 요소들이 결합되어 단일하고 통합적인 이미지로 어우러지는 ‘수직적 몽타주’의 원리와 연관된다. 요약하면 김광균의 시는 주제적 범주에서 모티프의 하위범주인 ‘멜랑콜리의 감응’, 미학적 범주에서 ‘숭고의 부정적 묘사’, 기법적 범주에서 몽타주의 하위범주인 ‘수직적 몽타주’ 등이 상호 침투하면서 미학적 특이성과 구조화 원리를 형성한다.

영어초록

This study is a part of long-term research plan to newly explore the typology of modern Korean poetry from the 1930s to the 1990s and further reconstruct the genealogy of modern poetry. In order to conduct a convergent study of the themes, aesthetics, styles, and techniques of Korean modern poetry, this study focuses on ‘motif’ in the thematic category, ‘beauty/sublime’ in the aesthetic category, ‘symbol/allegory’ in the stylistic category and ‘montage’ in the technical category, was set as an analysis center and a convergent methodology was adopted to explore the correlation between the subcategories.
The subcategories of each analysis center include ‘mourning/melancholy/principle of pleasure/death drive/trauma/music/painting/civilization/spirit/ideology/ethics/politics’ centered on ‘core motif’ in the thematic category, ‘beauty/sublime’ in the aesthetic category, ‘symbol/allegory’ in the stylistic category, and ‘connection montage/collision montage/attraction montage/metric montage/rhythmic montage/tonal montage/overtonal montage/vertical montage/intellectual montage’ centered on ‘core montage’ in the technical category. This article based on this methodology examples of text analysis were presented for the poetry of Kim Gwang-gyun in the 1930s.
In Kim Kwang-gyun’s poetry, the correlation term of ‘affect-image’ is largely a combina tion of ‘dry affect-formative image’ associated with the temporality of ‘daylight’, and ‘melancholic affect-image of opacity’ associated with the temporality of ‘evening’. This ap pears differentially in the development of Kim Gwang-gyun’s poetry, the combination of ‘dry affect’ and ‘image of formativeness’, which was attempted first among the correlation terms of ‘affect-image’, collapsed through the poet’s inner turmoil and the combination of ‘melancholic affect’ and ‘image of opacity’. This will take on a larger proportion. As the cen ter of gravity is tilted through the shaping of this combination, the morphological image of ‘formativeness’ associated with the time zone of ‘daylight’ is weakened, and the forms of ‘twilight’ and ‘lantern-fog’ associated with the time zone of ‘evening’ become ambiguous. and is transformed into an opaque color image.
In Kim Kwang-gyun’s poetry, the structuring principle related to the movement from ‘dry affect-formative image’ to ‘melancholic affect-image of opacity’ is organized into the following two principles in ‘aesthetic category’ and ‘technical category’. First, in the ‘aesthetic category’ Kim Kwang-gyun’s poetic form the ‘formative image’ collapses and the ‘image of opacity’ appears, and ‘the part where the boundary is erased and becomes ambiguous’ is associated with the ‘negative depiction of sublime’ in the aesthetic category.
Second, in the ‘technical category’ the serial presentation of ‘formative image’ and ‘color image’ as Kim Gwang-gyun’s poetic form is a ‘formative image’ and ‘color image’ that combine various elements such as visual, dramatic, and auditory elements into a single and integrated image. It is related to the principle of ‘vertical montage’. In summary, Kim Kwang-gyun’s poetry has aesthetic specificity and structuring principle through interpenetration of ‘melancholic affect’ as the subcategories of ‘motif’ in the thematic category, ‘negative description of the sublime’ in the aesthetic category, and ‘vertical montage’ as the subcategories of ‘montage’ in the technical category.
