초록

본고에서는 <손순매아> 설화와 식장산·보문산 전설의 비교·분석을 통해, <손순매아> 설화가 식장산과 보문산의 지명 형성에 영향을 끼쳤음을 입증하였다.
식장산 전설은 <손순매아> 설화에서 사찰 연기담이 탈락하고, 화수분 화소가 결합하여 탄생한 변이형 설화이다. 백제와 신라는 식장산에서 많은 전투를 치렀고, 자연히 백제에서는 식장산에 성을 쌓고 군량을 비축해 두었다. 이러한 연유로 이 산은 식량이 많이 저장되어 있다는 의미로 지역민들 사이에서 식장산(食藏山)이라는 이름으로도 불렸을 가능성이 있다. 여기에 <손순매아> 설화가 전파·흡인되고, 이 산에 많은 식량이 있다는 이야기에서 식량이 끊임없이 나오는 그릇 같은 화수분 화소도 흡인된다. 그리고 이러한 이야기들이 오래 전승되면서 이 산에는 많은 식량이 숨겨 있고, 귀하고 신이한 물건이 묻혀 있다는 믿음이 지역민들 사이에 생성된다. 이렇게 이 산은 역사·지리·설화적 요소 등이 복합적으로 어우러져 생성된 전설의 영향으로 인하여 현재의 식장산(食藏山)이라는 지명이 형성되었다.
보문산 전설은 식장산 전설과 마찬가지로 <손순매아> 설화에서 사찰 연기담이 탈락하고, 화수분 화소가 결합하여 탄생한 변이형 설화이다. 그런데 보문산 전설에는 이뿐만 아니라 효행담 또한 탈락하고, 동물 구제 득보담이 새로 추가되었다. <손순매아> 설화의 직접적 영향을 받은 식장산 전설은 효행담이 잘 나타나는 반면에, 식장산 전설로 인해 <손순매아> 설화의 간접적 영향을 받은 보문산 전설은 효행담이 탈락하는 대신 동물 구제 득보담이 결합하게 된다. 현재는 폐사되었지만 고려시대에 건립된 보문사(普文寺)라는 사찰이 보문산 서남쪽에 존재했었다. 이에 따라 보문사(普文寺)의 영향을 받아 근처 산의 이름이 보문산(普文山)으로도 불리고 표기했을 가능성이 있다. 하지만 보문사가 폐사된 뒤 지역민들에게 <손순매아> 설화와 식장산 전설의 영향으로 탄생한 보물산(寶物山) 전설의 전승력이 강해진다. 이에 보물 화수분 그릇이 묻힌 산이라는 뜻에서 보문산(普文山)의 ‘普’가 보물이라는 의미의 ‘寶’로 바뀌게 되었을 수 있다. 이렇게 이 산은 역사·지리·사찰·설화적 요소 등이 복합적으로 결합하여 현재의 보문산(寶文山)이라는 지명이 형성되었다.

In this study, through the comparison and analysis of <Sonsunmaea> tales and the legends of Sikjangsan Mountain and Bomunsan Mountain, <Sonsunmaea> tales proved to have influenced on the formation of the names of Sikjangsan Mountain and Bomunsan Mountain.
The Legend of Sikjangsan Mountain is variant tale that the origen stories of Buddhist temples were eliminated and inexhaustible supply Motifs was combined in <Sonsunmaea> tales. Baekje and Silla fought many battles at Sikjangsan Mountain. Naturally, Baekje built fortresses and provisions on Sikjangsan Mountain. For this reason, the mountain may have been called the Sikjangsan Mountain(食藏山) among the local people. In addition, <Sonsunmaea> tales are propagated, and in the story that there is a lot of food on this mountain, inexhaustible supply Motifs were absorbed. And as these stories have been passed down for a long time, the mountain created a belief among the local people that a lot of food was hidden and valuable mysterious objects were buried. In this way, the mountain is now named Sikjangsan Mountain(食藏山) due to the influence of the legend created by the combination of history, geography, and narrative elements.
Like the legend of Sikjangsan Mountain, the legend of Bomunsan Mountain is variant tale that the origen stories of Buddhist temples were eliminated and inexhaustible supply Motifs was combined in <Sonsunmaea> tales. However, the legend of Bomunsan Mountain eliminated the story of filial piety and added the story of obtaining treasure in return for saving an animal. The legend of Sikjangsan Mountain, which was directly influenced by the <Sonsunmaea> tales, showed the story of filial piety well, while the legend of Bomunsan Mountain, which was indirectly influenced by the <Sonsunmaea> tales, by the legend of Sikjangsan Mountain, Instead of dropping out of the story filial piety, the story of obtaining treasure in return for saving an animal is combined. Although now ruined, a temple called Bomunsa Temple(普文寺), built in Koryo Dynasty, existed on the southwest side of Bomunsan Mountain. Under the influence of Bomunsa Temple(普文寺), it is possible that the name of the nearby mountain is also called Bomunsan Mountain(普文山). However after Bomunsa Temple ruined, the local people are strengthened by the power of oral tradition of the legend of Treasure Mountain(寶物山), born of the influence of <Sonsunmaea> tales and the legend of Sikjangsan Mountain. Thus, the meaning of the mountain where the bowl of treasure inexhaustible supply was buried, could be changed from 'wide(普)' of Bomunsan Mountain(普文山) to 'treasure(寶)' meaning of treasure. In this way, this mountain is a combination of history, geography, temple, and narrative elements, forming the current name of Bomunsan Mountain(寶文山).
