호서·호남지역 송국리형 주거지 연구 (A Study on Habitation Sites of the Songgukri- Type in Hoseo and Honam Areas)

The habitation site of Songgukri-type is one of those that are classified by presence and location of oval pits and holes dug for pillars.
Songgukri-type habitation sites surveyed in the Hoseo (Chungcheong provinces) and Honam (Jeolla provinces) areas were found to have IIAtype > IA-type, with the oval pits of A-type occupying 83% of them,which signifies that A-type is the most prevalent one in the areas.
Whereas, however, B-type constitutes just 5% of all types of habitation found in Hoseo and Honam areas in contrast with Yeongnam (Gyeongsang provinces) area where it constitutes more than 90%,indicating that it is the most prevalent type in that area. With regard to the types of oval pits, a research into the remains in Guseong-dong,Daejeon Metro City suggested that the forms of oval pits had changed from B- to A-type, while such change was found to have taken place in inverted manner from B to A in Gagok-dong, Suncheon City, which witnesses that the difference between A- and B-type should be regarded rather as regional than timely one. Habitation sites of D-type on the circular plane found in Dongcheong-dong, Daegu Metro City were believed to belong to the latest type of such kinds because there were no oval pits anymore. But it may also be viewed to be of the earliest type among circular-type sites for habitation since earthenware pots with upright tip found characteristically in early types have been unearthed there once in while. It is thus assumed that each of Songgukri-type habitation sites was formed independently in the beginning and started to spread to other vicinities gradually as A- and C-types are mostly distributed in Hoseo and Honam areas while B- and D-types are found mainly in Yeongnam area. Considering the characters of geographical distribution of each type, it is proposed to classify IA as Hyuamri-type, IIA, circular one, as Songgukri-type, B as Geomdanri-type, and D as Dongcheonri-type. C-type is not specifically connected with the regional features and thus must be studied later separately. The emergence of Songgukri culture seems to have functioned to change the then society as a whole. One example is the change from long, narrow and oblong sites of habitation on the plane in the initial stage to small size and oblong shape in general. In the southern part of the country, Songgukri-type habitation made an entrance unifying the types of habitation, it was found.
