秋詩의 정서와 흰색 물상에 대한 小考 - 『欽定四庫全書·詠物詩』秋類를 대상으로 (A Study on Emotions and White Objects in Autumn Poems - With a focus on the autumn poems in Heumjeongsagojeonseo·Yeongmulshi)

초록

가을과 흰색은 각각 고유한 이미지를 지니고 있었는데 이들이 함께 연결되어 구체적으로 서술되고 있는 것은 『呂氏春秋』였다. 『呂氏春秋』의 내용은 한대의 사상서들에 답습되고 있었으며, 이는 오행사상과 궤를 같이하고 있다. 오행사상에서는 가을을 흰색으로 표현하고, 흰색을 가을에 대응시킴으로써 서로를 상징화하였고 이들의 결합된 이미지는 전쟁, 형벌 등을 표상하면서 엄숙함, 의로움, 분노 등의 정서를 함의하고 있다. 이는 오행사상에서 쇠(金)가 가을을 상징하며 숙살의 이미지로 나타나는 것과 유사함을 보인다. 『欽定四庫全書·詠物詩』秋類에 대한 정서의 분류와 그 정서표현을 위해 등장하는 가을의 계절감과 흰색 경물 및 제 경물의 역할에 대해서는 다음과 같이 정리할 수 있다.
첫째, 閑雅한 정서를 표현하고 있는 경우이다. 이때 시인들은 가을을 순환의 주기로 여유롭게 인식하면서 가을의 청량하고 상쾌한 기후를 부각하였다. 이러한 정서표현에 등장하고 있는 흰색 경물은 이슬, 구름, 안개, 강, 여우 등이다. 이때 흰 이슬, 즉 白露는 가을을 대표하는 절기의 의미를 가지면서 구름과 함께 맑고 평화로운 이미지를 지녔다. 안개와 맑은 강 또한 낭만적인 분위기와 자유로움이 강조되고, 흰여우는 동화적인 이미지로 시의 정서를 밝고 여유롭게 유도하였다.
둘째, 풍요로움의 정서를 드러내는 경우이다. 이러한 정서 표현은 가을이 수확의 계절임을 내세우면서 경물 또한 곡식이 주로 등장하였다. 흰색 경물로는 흰 벼꽃의 향연, 하얀 연뿌리, 흰쌀밥의 이미지를 중심으로 아가씨의 건강한 신체, 하얀 갈대밭이 등장하였다. 특히 서술에서 역동적인 묘사가 더해지고 풍경의 전환이 빨라지면서 시는 더욱 생동적으로 살아났고 시인의 풍요로운 정서와 따뜻한 격정이 선명하게 부각되었다.
셋째, 哀愁의 정서를 드러내고 있는 경우이다. 이러한 정서는 현실에서의 좌절감, 향수, 근원적인 고독감, 외로움 등으로 인한 것이었다. 이때의 시인은 싸늘한 가을 기후와 쇠락의 이미지를 내세우며 이슬, 안개, 모래사장, 벽, 마름 등의 흰색 경물을 사용하였다. 이때의 경물은 차고, 아득하고, 흐리고, 여린 성질이 부각되고 풍경의 전환은 정지된 듯 느리게 묘사되었다. 즉 같은 이슬과 안개의 경우에도 閑雅한 정서표현에서는 맑고 청아한 기운이 강조되는데 비해, 哀愁의 정서표현에서는 찬 성질이 강조되고 있다. 흰색 경물 외에도 시들어가는 꽃과 풀들, 귀뚜라미, 서리, 바람소리, 기러기, 종이이불, 다다미소리, 희미한 불빛 등의 시청각 요소들이 슬픈 이미지 군을 형성하고 있다.
사상적인 면에서는 가을에 흰색만을 고집하여 의로움, 분노의 정서를 드러내었다면, 추시에서는 결합하는 색상에 대한 유연성을 보이며 그 정서도 더욱 다양했는데, 이는 詩語 群의 복합적 이미지와 수식어, 서술어의 차이에서도 비롯되고 있었다.

영어초록

Autumn and white have their respective unique images. Yeossichunchu provides specific descriptions of their connected images. Its descriptions were followed in ideological books during Han Dynasty, which is in the same orbit as the Principle of Five Elements. Autumn is expressed in white, and white corresponds to autumn in the Principle of Five Elements, in which they are symbolized for each other. Their combined images usually represent war and punishment. In the Principle of Five Elements, metal represents autumn and is expressed in cold and brutal images, implying such emotions as solemn, righteous, and angry.
The study sorted out the roles of white natural features to emerge with the sense of autumn to classify emotions about autumn poetry and express those emotions as follows: First, they expressed graceful emotions, in which case the poets perceived nature with more leisure from a macroscopic perspective and highlighted the clear, cool, and pleasant weather of autumn. The white natural features found in those emotional expressions include dews, clouds, fogs, rivers, and the fox. Of them, white dews represented the solar term of autumn and held clear and peaceful images like clouds. Fogs and clear rivers also emphasized a romantic atmosphere, and the white fox guided all the poems toward bright and leisurely emotions with fairy tale images.
Secondly, they expressed rich emotions, which highlighted autumn as the season of harvest with grain making frequent appearances. The white natural features found in those emotional expressions include white rice flowers, white lotus roots, and white cooked rice along with the healthy wrists of young ladies and the white reed fields. The poets tried to deliver rich and sound romanticism through those natural features. As they added dynamic depictions to their narrations, their poems came to life more lively with their rich emotions and warm passion highlighted clearly.
Finally, they expressed sorrowful emotions, in which case the poets put forward the cold autumn weather and used such white natural features as dews, fogs, sandy beaches, walls, and water chestnuts. Trying to express those emotions, the poets highlighted the bleak images of late autumn and the cold, distant, blurry, and delicate nature of white natural features. The white natural features were accompanied by withering flowers and plants, crickets, frosts, sound of winds, wild geese, paper blankets, sound of Japanese floor mats, and dim light. Those audio-visual elements formed an image group with the white natural features, expressing sorrowful emotions.
