탈진실 현상과 벤야민의 번역론 (W. Benjamin’s thought on translation against the Post-truth Society)

초록

이 글은 탈진실의 현실과 포스트모더니즘의 언어행위에 대한 문제제기로부터 출발했다. 탈진실의 언어행위는 포스트모더니즘이 지난 40년 동안 유포해 왔던 쾌락적 가벼움과 소비주의 그리고 차이의 철학에 근거한 언어행위의 결과이다. 이 연구는 이와같은 연구 배경에 따라 이 언어문화를 극복하기 위한 하나의 관점을 제시한다. 그것은벤야민의 번역론이다.
벤야민은 독일 바이마르 시대를 살았으며 그 시대가 지녔던 개인주의와 극단적 자유주의의 특성을 비판했다. 이 데카당스한 특성은 언어의 지시대상을 형이상학적으로만 이해했던 1960년대 포스트모더니즘의 언어-기호론의 일반경향과 유사하다. 특히시적 언어생산이 그런 것이다.
이 글은 언어의 본래적 기능은 뜻의 소통이지 시적 표현은 아니라는 전제를 가지고벤야민의 번역론을 소개한다. 벤야민은 시적이든 산문적이든 언어의 생산성을 강조하면서도 언어의 보편적인 의미의 지평을 버리지 않았다. 이 연구는 그가 순수언어라 불렀던 보편적인 의미의 지평이 위치하는 곳은 표현도 뜻도 아닌 의미의 규범적 층위라는 것을 설명한다. 이는 구조 기호학의 전제와 유사하기 때문에 그레마스의 의미의 기초구조와 비견하여 설명할 수 있다. 시적 언어생산은 데카당스한 문화의 표현이며 의미론적 차원을 끌고 오지 않으면 우리 시대의 소통은 그 부패성을 벗어나지 못할 것이다.

영어초록

Post-truth means an enthronement that public debate is framed largely by appeals to emotion disconnected from a minimal rationality or thinking, and by the desire of talking points to which factual rebuttals are ignored. Post-truth differs from traditional contesting and falsifying of truth by rendering it of secondary importance.
Due to the modern technological ubiquity, omnipresence of different information everywhere especially at the same time, modern men have got a feeling that they could have appropriated knowledges for all of necessary situation. Based on their own desire and belief, they consider these information misled objective and even use to influence an audience and further an agenda, by undermining their own perception and cognition on the real world.
The main purpose of the study is to determine how Walter Benjamin’s translation view on the language contribute to solve this present post-truth phenomena as semio-linguistic problem normal. The study hopes to achieve this; firstly by comparing cultural situations between the Weimar Republic’s European world where Benjamin has lived and the neoliberal world we live in today; secondly by approaching to and interpreting Benjamin’s semio-linguistic view on language as a structural semiotic; finally by repositionning his semiotic in a whole rethinking of our postmodern culture and language activity which have made our world irreal and invisible.
The Weimar Republic and the neoliberal world we live in today have a common characteristic of a perceived decay in standards, morals, dignity, religious faith. By extension, it may refer to a decline in language activity and work ethics, or to self-indulgent behaviour. Benjamin proposed a kind of endurant Messianism against this common decadence. Against the fragmentation of mass perception on the reality in that/this age, he proposed also a structural thinking biased but augumented by translation theory, similar to Greimas’ generative theory of semiotics. Finally, he proposed to us a mediated role between our own language and the pure language referring to the elementary structure of meaning in the Greimas’ term. This study concludes that Benjamin’s eminent thinking on the language can enlighten our eyes which enjailed in the prison house of language.
