중국불교의 호교론과 공자 (Confucius and the Chinese Buddhism)

초록

불교는 중국의 이질적 문화환경 속에서 공자를 빌려 중국토양에 적응하고자 했다. 이를 넓은 의미의 格義로 볼 수 있겠다. 불교가 안착하고 난 뒤에도 격의는 이해를 돕기 위한 일종의 방편으로 널리 활용되었다.
그럼에도 불구하고 공자의 가르침이 상식이었던 중국사회에서 비유, 대비적 사유의 장점을 버릴 수는 없었다. 따라서 격의적 관점을 유지하면서 불교의 우월성을 부각시킬 필요가 있었다. 어떠한 호교론도 실질적으로 불교의 우월성을 주장하고 있다고 말할 수 있다. 불교와 유교를 비교하면서 그것이 기본적으로는 동일한 차원을 말하고 있지만 진리를 규명하는데 있어서 불교가 보다 철저하다는 불교 우월론이 그것이다. 예를 들어 契嵩(宋)은 공자가 조금 말하여 전한 이치는 불교의 출세간의 가르침에 의해 분명하면서도 광범위하게 설해졌다고 보았으며, 『蓮修起信錄』에서는 유교 서적의 정수라야 불법의 앞 길을 열 수 있으니 세간과 출세간의 법이 불법 아닌 것이 없다고 하였다. 이처럼 불교 우월론의 핵심은 그것이 세간과 출세간을 아우른다는 점을 강조하는데 있었다. 세간과 출세간의 삶을 함께 해탈케 해준다는 이 점이야말로 불교의 우월성으로 대중들에게 힘을 발휘할 수 있었을 것으로 보인다. 적어도 죽음 이후에 대해 유교는 체계적인 답변을 유보하고 있었기 때문이다. 불교에서는 이에 대해 ‘하늘과 땅, 죽음과 삶의 극치를 손바닥의 일처럼 분명히 보여준다’고 표현되기도 한다. 그런 의미에서 불교는 완전하다는 주장이 제시되었다. 유교는 세간의 진리만 언급하고, 도교는 세상을 벗어나는 초탈만을 얘기하므로 두 경우 모두 盡善하나 盡美하지 않다. 그러나 세간과 출세간, 입세와 출세를 둘로 보지 않는 불교는 진선진미하다는 것이다. 물론 불교의 우월성에 대한 강조는 항상 불교의 핵심인 圓證과 頓悟의 중요성을 강조하는 것으로 귀결되는 것이 일반적이다. 다른 모든 것은 불이의 깨달음으로 이끌기 위한 방편권교이기 때문이다.

영어초록

The Buddhism borrowed Confucius in culture environment of the Chinese difference and was going to fit the Chinese soil. I am seen for the status justice of a wide meaning in this. Buddhism was applied in cheap a kind of means for the distance to help understanding later after arriving widely.
Nevertheless I was not able to abandon a metaphor, the good point of the reason of the preparation in the China society where it was common sense to tell of Confucius. Therefore, it was necessary to let an advantage of the Buddhism surface while maintaining a point of view of the distance. It may be said that any ホギョロン insists on an advantage of the Buddhism substantially. It says a dimension equal basically while comparing Confucianism with Buddhism, but a Buddhism superiority theory to be more thorough Buddhism in what make a searching examination in truth is it. For example, the religious withdrawal from daily life of the Buddhism tell the law of nature that some Confuciuses say 契嵩 (Soong), and conveyed; thought that was large although being apparent, and was considered to be it for New Year holidays when resembled it, and the world and law of the religious withdrawal from daily life said when could open the way before illegality with the fixed number of the Confucianism book in 『 蓮修起信録 』 that there was not one of a illegally. There was the core of the Buddhism superiority theory in this way though I emphasized the point that it did between the world and success in life together. This point to be delivered from the world and life between the career progress together is seen with that the public was able to show power with an advantage of the Buddhism. This is because Confucianism reserved a systematic answer for at least death afterward. The `sky and the ground, death and the true acme are surely expressed with' showing like the work of the palm for this in the Buddhism. A claim that the Buddhism was complete was shown in such a meaning. Confucianism mentions only truth of the world, and two 場合皆盡善一 つ 盡美 does not do the Taoism because they talk about only the hail hail escaping from the world. However, the Buddhism not to watch the world and religious withdrawal from daily life, イブセ and success in life to two is to do 所善所美. Of course it is common to be come to the conclusion by emphasis for the advantages of the Buddhism always emphasizing an identification of which is the core of the Buddhism Japanese yen and importance of 頓悟. All other things are because it is a 不異意悟 ることで means right religion to lead it.
